Growth and productive characteristics of English-origin hybrid male pigs under different castration methods and liquid feeding conditions | Crecimiento y características productivas de cerdos machos híbridos de origen inglés bajo diferentes métodos de castración y condiciones de alimentación líquida

The article investigated the effects of surgical and immunological castration on growth intensity, level of feed consumption, feed conversion and preservation of hybrid boars obtained from Great White and Landrace half-breed sows and РIС-337 English origin synthetic terminal boars during suckling, rearing and fattening in conditions of the industrial pig complex of the Poltava region, Ukraine. Males of the control group were surgically castrated on the third day of life. The males of the research group were vaccinated with Improvak vaccine for the first time on the 112th day and the second time on the 140th day of life. In all periods of ontogeny, except the growth period, the immunocastrated pigs grew faster and had a higher absolute growth and mass at the end of each period than their counterparts surgically castrated. The average daily feed intake and feed conversion also depended on the castration method. Thus, non-castrated pigs consumed 11.7% less feed during rearing and 6.23% more during fattening. At the same time, feed conversion in surgically castrated animals was 2.9% higher in the rearing period, 12.7% higher in the first fattening period and 3.8% higher in the final fattening period than in immunocastrated animals. In order to improve growth intensity, feed consumption and feed conversion in boars of the synthetic terminal line РIС-337 of English origin under conditions of industrial pig complexes, it is recommended to use immunocastration instead of surgical castration.

El artículo investigó los efectos de la castración quirúrgica e inmunológica sobre la intensidad del crecimiento, el nivel de consumo de alimento, la conversión alimenticia y la preservación de verracos híbridos obtenidos de cerdas mestizas Great White y Landrace y verracos terminales sintéticos de origen inglés РIС-337 durante la lactancia, la crianza y engorde en las condiciones del complejo porcino industrial de la región de Poltava, Ucrania. Los machos del grupo control fueron castrados quirúrgicamente al tercer día de vida. Los machos del grupo de investigación fueron vacunados con la vacuna Improvak por primera vez al día 112 y por segunda vez al día 140 de vida. En todos los períodos de la ontogenia, excepto en el período de crecimiento, los cerdos inmunocastrados crecieron más rápido y tuvieron un mayor crecimiento absoluto y masa al final de cada período que sus contrapartes castrados quirúrgicamente. El consumo diario promedio de alimento y la conversión alimenticia también dependieron del método de castración. Así, los cerdos no castrados consumieron un 11,7% menos de pienso durante la cría y un 6,23% más durante el engorde. Al mismo tiempo, la conversión alimenticia en animales castrados quirúrgicamente fue un 2,9% mayor en el período de recría, un 12,7% mayor en el primer período de engorde y un 3,8% mayor en el período de engorde final que en los animales inmunocastrados. Para mejorar la intensidad del crecimiento, el consumo de alimento y la conversión alimenticia en verracos de la línea terminal sintética РIС-337 de origen inglés en condiciones de complejos porcinos industriales, se recomienda utilizar inmunocastración en lugar de castración quirúrgica.
