Estimación del carbono acumulado en la biomasa aérea de una parcela permanente de bosque andino en Cajanuma, parque nacional Podocarpus

Andean forests are important mainly because of their role as a source of ecosystem goods and services, being the carbon storage capacity (CO2) one of the most important in recent times, in terms of mitigating the effects of Climate Change. This research provided information on the carbon storage capacity of Andean forests, fulfilling the objectives of determining the above-ground biomass content and estimating the fixed carbon in a permanent plot of Andean forest in the Cajanuma sector, Podocarpus National Park, Loja province. The study was carried out in a permanent plot of 1 hectare (100 m x 100 m) divided into 25 subplots of 400 m2 (20 m x 20 m); the diameter and height of all trees with DBH ≥ 10 cm were measured; The amount of biomass of each tree was estimated by using an equation that relates height, diameter and density of wood. For the shrub and herbaceous strata, the destructive method was used, taking samples of the vegetation (shrub and herbaceous) in 20 plots of 4 m2 placed around the 1 ha plot, which were weighed in green and then dried in an oven at 60 ° C to estimate the biomass content through the green weight-dry weight ratio. In the case of Rhipidocladum harmonicum, which is an abundant floristic element in this ecosystem, the average biomass of a stem was estimated by relating the green weight-dry weight of 30 stems of this species. To estimate the carbon content, the estimated biomass of each stratum was multiplied by 0.5. The results showed that the estimated carbon content for the tree stratum with a record of 1506 individuals ≥ 10 cm DBH was 70.86 Mg ha-1; for the shrub stratum the estimated carbon content was 6.08 Mg ha-1; for the herbaceous stratum, the carbon estimate was 0.09 Mg ha-1, giving a total carbon fixed in the plot of 77.02 Mg. It was determined that in 1 ha of Andean forest the trees capture 92% of the total carbon, the shrubs 7.89% represented mainly by Rhipidocladum harmonicum and the herbs 0.11% this in terms of aerial biomass, however, it is necessary Carbon content research for other floristic elements such as lianas, epiphytes, as well as forest necromass, which can be included in future studies. Los bosques andinos son importantes principalmente por su papel como fuente de bienes y servicios ecosistémicos, siendo la capacidad de almacenamiento de carbono (CO2) uno de los de mayor relevancia en los últimos tiempos, en función de la mitigación de los efectos del Cambio Climático. Esta investigación tuvo como objeto determinar el contenido de biomasa aérea y estimar el carbono fijado en una parcela permanente de bosque andino del sector Cajanuma, Parque Nacional Podocarpus, provincia de Loja. El estudio se realizó en una parcela permanente de 1 hectárea (100 m x 100 m) dividida en 25 subparcelas de 400 m2 (20 m x 20 m) donde se midió el diámetro y altura de todos los árboles con DAP ≥ 10 cm; se estimó la cantidad de biomasa de cada árbol mediante el uso de una ecuación alométrica que usa altura, diámetro y densidad de madera. Para los estratos arbustivo y herbáceo se utilizó el método destructivo tomando muestras de la vegetación (arbustiva y herbácea) en 20 parcelas de 4 m2 colocadas alrededor de la parcela de 1 ha, de las cuales se registró el peso en verde y luego se secaron en una estufa a 60°C para mediante la relación peso verde-peso seco estimar el contenido de biomasa. En el caso Rhipidocladum harmonicum, que es un elemento florístico abundante en este ecosistema se estimó la biomasa promedio de un tallo relacionando el peso verde-peso seco de 30 tallos de esta especie. Para estimar el contenido de carbono se multiplicó la biomasa estimada de cada estrato por 0,5. El contenido de carbono estimado para el estrato arbóreo con un registro de 1506 individuos ≥ 10 cm de DAP fue de 70,86 Mg ha-1; para el estrato arbustivo el contenido de carbono estimado fue de 6,08 Mg ha-1; para el estrato herbáceo el estimado de carbono fue de 0,09 Mg ha-1 dando un total de carbono fijado en la parcela de 77,02 Mg. Se determinó que en 1 ha de bosque andino los árboles capturan un 92 % del carbono total, los arbustos un 7,89 % representado principalmente por Rhipidocladum harmonicum y las hierbas 0,11% esto en cuanto a biomasa aérea, sin embargo, se necesita de investigación de contenido de carbono para otros elementos florísticos como lianas, epífitas, así como también la necromasa del bosque, lo cual se puede incluir en estudios futuros.
