Chili piquin (Capsicum annuum var. Aviculare) established on a plastic coating and space arrangement | Chile piquín (Capsicum annuum var. Aviculare) establecido en un revestimiento de plástico y arreglos espaciales

English. The piquín chile intercropped in fruit trees has shown to be profitable for some agroecosystems in Mexico. Due to the importance of this vegetable, in the Cotaxtla Experimental Field of INIFAP, under rainfed conditions, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the growth and production of piquín chili, with three planting densities in bare soil and with plastic cover. The experimental design used was randomized blocks in divided plots. The variables evaluated were: plant height, stem thickness, floral buds, flowers, fruits and yield. The results showed that the use of plastic cover in chile piquín was statistically better than the treatment with bare soil in the variables plant height, stem diameter, number of shoots, flowers and fruits, with a yield of 7.53 t ha-1 that equivalent to 108% higher than the treatment with bare soil. The planting density of 25 000 plants per hectare was statistically higher than the other densities evaluated. The best density was 2 500 plants ha with plastic cover with a yield of 7.53 t ha-1.

Spanish; Castilian. El chile piquín intercalado en árboles frutales ha mostrado ser rentable para algunos agroecosistemas de México. Debido a la importancia de esta hortaliza, en el Campo Experimental Cotaxtla del INIFAP en condiciones de temporal, un experimento para evaluar el crecimiento y la producción de chile piquín, con tres densidades de siembra en suelo desnudo y con cubierta plástica. El diseño experimental utilizado fue de bloques al azar en parcelas dividas. Las variables evaluadas fueron: altura de planta, grosor de tallo, brotes florales, flores, frutos y rendimiento. Los resultados mostraron que el uso de cubierta plástica en chile piquín fue estadísticamente mejor que el tratamiento con suelo desnudo en las variables altura de planta, diámetro de tallo, número de brotes, flores y frutos, con un rendimiento de 7.53 t ha-1 que equivale al 108% superior al tratamiento con suelo desnudo. La densidad de siembra de 25 000 plantas por hectárea fue estadísticamente superior a las otras densidades evaluadas.  La mejor densidad fue de 2 500 plantas ha con cubierta plástica con rendimiento de 7.53 t ha-1.
