English. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of three cutting frequency of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) in order to obtain the highest seasonal and annual herbage production and nutritive value. Three cutting frequencies (2, 4 and 6 weeks) were evaluated, and allocated in 4 x 4 m plots, in a completely randomized block design, with four replicates. Variables studied were dry matter production (DMP), growth rate, plant height, botanical composition and nutritive value, which were expressed on a seasonal and annual basis. The higher DMP (6,000 kg DM ha-1 year-1) was obtained at 4 and 6 wk cutting frequencies.About 72 % of annual DMP was produced in spring and summer. Growth rate was greatest (35 kg DM ha-1 day-1) and lowest (5 kg DM ha-1 day-1) in July and January, respectively (P
