Visual Impact Assessment of Flooring Materials Used in Landscape Architecture

Outdoor flooring materials, which are of importance both functionally and visually in landscape design, make a great contribution to satisfaction of the quality and continuity of the landscape by creating aesthetic spaces. Accordingly, it is aimed to determine alternative flooring materials that would increase the visual effects of a zone located on the coastal band of the Ereğli District of the Zonguldak Province. In this context, simulation images which were prepared by using 18 different flooring materials on the existing photographs taken from the study area were submitted for the evaluation of 100 users and 20 experts by means of questionnaires. Based on the criteria used to measure the visual landscape values, an evaluation table with a 5-stage Likert scale was included in the questionnaires. Statistically significant results were obtained by the analysis of the data. The flooring materials in each image; were determined in terms of compatibility, naturalness, regularity, openness, mobility, safety, thrillingness, beauty, relaxation, as well as impressiveness and the flooring materials with the highest and lowest visual impact values were determined.
