Effects of Hormone, Stem-Age and Media On Rooting Performance of NarrowLeaved Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. oxycarpa Vahl.) Cuttings
2022
Cetin, B.
Narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. oxycarpa Vahl.), one of the naturally grown ashes in Turkey, is an important tree with its fast-growing abilities, valuable timber and adaptation capability to various ecological regions. Hardwood cuttings of ash were obtained from saplings and trees aged 1-2, 18-20 and 38-40 in Sakarya-Hendek region at the end of February. Cuttings first were kept in indole butyric acid (IBA) solution at 1000, 3000 and 5000 ppm for 5 seconds and then placed in peat (75%) + perlite (25%) and perlite (100%) medium for rooting in a greenhouse. In the study (three stem age x 4 hormone doses x 2 medium), 1080 cuttings were used in 24 experimental units with 3 replications and 15 cuttings on each experimental units. Analysis of variance was performed to determine the effects of treatments on the rooting percentage, the number of thin and thick roots, and the shoot diameter and length.
