Description of a new subfossil species of Cerion (Mollusca: Pulmonata: Cerionidae), from the Granma province, Cuba | Descripción de una especie nueva de subfósil de cerión (Mollusca: Pulmonata: Cerionidae) de la provincia Granma, Cuba

English. A new species of Cerion Röding, 1798, in a subfossil state, from the Province of Granma, Cuba, is described. The specimens were found on the surface of the land, in the area known locally as Cayuyaya, within the “Desembarco del Granma” protected area, corresponding to the Río Maya formation, from the Upper Pliocene-Lower Pleistocene. This record increases to seven the number of taxa described for this province, whose remaining populations are found within the protected area. It is compared to Cerion mumia mumia; Cerion mumia chrysalis; Cerion mumia fastigatum; Cerion irielii; Cerion infandum; Cerion tridentatum; Cerion iostomum; Cerion ceiba, species with which it shares the greatest conchological resemblance. It shows as manifest differential characters the elongated shape of the shell, which contrasts with the narrow diameter. It has a smooth nucleus and first apical turns. The intercostal spaces in the concha are almost three times the width of the base of the ribs, it has a wide peristome, a thin parietal callus, and the absence of a columellar tooth. In addition, it has elongated, low and blunt ribs and a small, wide navel, where the ribs of the last round converge.

Spanish; Castilian. Se describe una especie nueva de Cerion Röding, 1798, en estado subfósil, de la Provincia de Granma, Cuba. Los ejemplares fueron hallados en la superficie del terreno, en la zona conocida localmente como Cayuyaya, dentro del área protegida “Desembarco del Granma”, correspondiente a la formación Río Maya, del Plioceno Superior-Pleistoceno Inferior. Este registro aumenta a siete el número de táxones descritos para esta provincia, cuyas restantes poblaciones se encuentran dentro del área protegida. Es comparada con Cerion mumia mumia; Cerion mumia chrysalis; Cerion mumia fastigatum; Cerion irielii; Cerion infandum; Cerion tridentatum; Cerion iostomum; Cerion ceiba, especies con las que  comparte mayor parecido conquiológico. Muestra como caracteres diferenciales manifiestos la forma alargada de la concha, que contrasta con el diámetro estrecho. Tiene el núcleo y las primeras vueltas apicales lisas. Los espacios intercostales en la concha son casi tres veces el ancho de la base de las costillas, tiene un peristoma ancho, el callo parietal fino y ausencia de diente columelar. Además, posee costillas alargadas, bajas y romas y un ombligo pequeño y ancho, donde convergen las costillas de la última vuelta.
