The purpose of this investigation was to determine the morphometric char acterization of the autochthonous sheep breeds rearing in Pelagonia region. Body measurements of body length (BL), wither height (WH), chest width (CW), rump width (RW), chest depth (CD) and chest circumference (CC) were tak en. Also, ethnological indices (Index of body frame – IBF, Chest index – CI) and functional indices (Chest depth index – CDI, Index of thorax development – ITD, Index of conformation – BCI – BaronCrevat index) were calculated on 250 an imals in total. Correlations between measured traits were also determined. Ac cording the measurements and indices calculation, Pelagonia sheep breed are characterized with rectangular body frame with long line, good skeletal fitness accommodated for mountainous terrain and good thorax development indicat ing on good capacity of the respiratory system. Strong positive correlation and statistical significance was evident between chest index and chest width (r = 0,777) and strong correlation with statistical significance was also evident be tween wither height and body length (r = 0,635). Results provided in this study indicate that autochthonous sheep breed rearing in Pelagonia region corrob orates with the morphological characteristics of Ovcepolian type of Pramenka sheep breed.
