In order to assess the health status of domestic mountain horses in the territory of southeastern Serbia, a total of 29 horses from three different localities were examined. The first herd of 13 horses was located on the pasture of Mokra in the vicinity of Bela Palanka, while the remaining two herds of 9 and 7 horses were located in the villages of Izatovci and Brebevnica in the southeastern region of Stara Planina. Physical condition was assessed by using the Henneke method, coprological analysis of the feces was performed and blood was sampled for biochemical tests. The following parameters were included in the biochemical examination of the blood: total proteins concentration, albumins, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, phosphorus, urea, creatinine and activity of ALP, CK and GGT. The assessment of the physical condition did not suggest significant differen ces in the condition of the horses in the mentioned localities. Coprological exa minations of the feces revealed the presence of endoparasites Strongylus spp., Trichostrongylus axei and Parascaris equorum in all the herds. Differences in the values of ALP and CK existed between the localities Mokra and Izatovci (p <0.05), while differences in the values of these parameters between Brebevnica and the previous two localities were not established. All other biochemical pa rameters were within the reference values and did not differ between the herds. It can be concluded that all the horses are in good physical condition, without visible signs of any disease. Additional clinical and biochemical studies are nee ded to determine the actual reason for the increase in ALP and CK.
