Sludges are one of several types of waste generated in the process of hot dip galvanizing. The amount and composition of sludge formed from the operation of the hot-dip galvanizing plant depends primarily on: whether the process is conducted continuously or continuously, the capacity of working tubs, mode of operation and monitoring of the technological process from the point of view of concentration of basic components in solution and rinsing water Management of other types of waste, as well as sludge, in the plant implies monitoring from the moment of generation to disposal and that is one of the basic tasks in the interest of environmental protection. The paper presents the procedure of sludge characterization, which determines the physico-chemical and chemical and, if necessary, biological properties of sludge, and based on the test results and whether waste sludge contains or does not contain one or more hazardous characteristics, is classified as hazardous or non-hazardous waste.
