Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf die Lebensbedingungen von Nagetieren, assoziierten Parasiten und Pathogenen

German. Klimafaktoren wirken auf eine Vielzahl ökologischer Prozesse kaskadenartig und betreffen vorrangig Arten mit kurzen Generationszeiten und schnellen Wachstumsraten. Zusammen mit Veränderungen der Landnutzung können sie vor allem die Aktivität, Populationsdynamik und Demographie von Kleinsäugern sowie ihre Bedeutung als agrarwirtschaftliche Schädlinge und Reservoir für zoonotische Krankheitserreger beeinflussen. Über die Ausbreitung involvierter Vektorpopulationen können zudem neue Beziehungen und Dynamiken zwischen Erregern, Parasiten und Wirtsarten entstehen. Um den Einfluss landwirtschaftlicher und klimatischer Faktoren auf die Dynamik und Demographie von Kleinsäugern, assoziierten Parasiten und zoonotischen Pathogenen zu untersuchen wurde eine zweijährige Feldstudie durchgeführt. Auf fünf Landnutzungs- und unter zwei Klimaszenarien wurden Kleinsäuger mit Lebendfallen gefangen und monatlich beprobt. Das Handling bestand aus einer individuellen Markierung, der Entnahme einer Hautund Blutprobe, sowie der Adspektion auf Ektoparasiten für den Erregernachweis. Neben der Nagetierart wurden Fangort, Körpermaße, Geschlecht und Reproduktionsstatus notiert. Aus 1.949 Individuen wurden 74% als Feld- (Microtus arvalis) und 22% als Waldmäuse (Apodemus sylvaticus) identifiziert. Von 8% aller M. arvalis und 5% aller A. sylvaticus wurden 348 Zecken des gemeinen Holzbocks (Ixodes ricinus) erhoben. Von 922 Flöhen kamen 82% auf M. arvalis und 17% auf A. sylvaticus vor. 10% der M. arvalis und 3% der A. sylvaticus wurden positiv auf Borrelia afzelii getestet. Bei Zecken lag die Prävalenz bei 8%. Infektionen mit Rickettsia spp. wurden weder bei Nagetieren noch Zecken nachgewiesen. Die Abundanz und der Anteil reproduzierender M. arvalis und A. sylvaticus zeigte einen Jahreseffekt. Saisonale Habitateffekte existierten als höhere Ortstreue und reproduktive Aktivität nur bei M. arvalis. Saisonale Klimaeffekte hatten keinen Einfluss auf die Reproduktion beider Nagetiere, jedoch auf die höhere Ortstreue von M. arvalis und die höhere Abundanz von A. sylvaticus auf klimamanipulierten Flächen. 2019 wurde ein höherer Flohbesatz festgestellt als 2020. Ein Einfluss der Landnutzung auf die Anzahl erhobener Parasiten existierte nicht. Als tendenzieller Effekt konnte bei M. arvalis eine höhere Zeckenbelastung und bei A. sylvaticus eine höhere Flohbelastung auf klimamanipulierten Flächen festgestellt werden. Zeckenassoziierte Infektion mit B. afzelii zeigten einen tendenziellen Habitateffekt. Sporadische und hinter der Landnutzung zurückstehende Klimaeffekte legen nahe, dass sich die Landnutzung in Zukunft nur geringfügig verändern wird. Demgegenüber deutet das wahrscheinliche Auftreten saisonal größerer Nagetierpopulationen, sowie potentiell höherer Zeckenprävalenzen unter künftigen Klimabedingungen, auf eine sich intensivierende Interaktion der Akteure vektorübertragener Pathogene hin.

English. Climate Factors cause a large scale of cascading effects on a number of ecological processes, primarily affecting species with short generation times and rapid growth rates. Together with changes in land use, they can in particular influence activity, population dynamics and demography of small mammal species, as well as their importance as agricultural pests and reservoirs for zoonotic pathogens. Also, new relationships and dynamics between pathogens, parasites and host species may arise through the spread of involved vector populations. During a two-year field study, the influence of agricultural and climatic factors on the dynamics and demography of small mammals, associated parasites and zoonotic pathogens was investigated. Therefore, small mammal species were trapped within live traps and sampled monthly in a split-plot-designed field, encompassing five land use and two climate scenarios. Animal handling consisted of individual markings, skin and blood sampling and the collection of ectoparasites for pathogen detection. In addition to the rodent species, capture location, body measurements, sex and reproductive status were recorded. Out of 1949 individuals, 74% were identified as common vole (Microtus arvalis) and 22% as wood mice (Apodemus sylvaticus). From these 348 castor bean ticks (Ixodes ricinus) were collected, harbored by 8% of M. arvalis and 5% of A. sylvaticus. Out of 922 fleas, 82% were found on M. arvalis and 17% on A. sylvaticus. 10% of M. arvalis and 3% of A. sylvaticus were tested positive for Borrelia afzelii. The prevalence of this pathogen in ticks was 8%. Infections with Rickettsia spp. neither detected in rodents nor ticks. The abundance and proportion of reproducing rodents showed an annual effect in M. arvalis and A. sylvaticus. Furthermore, seasonal effects of the habitat existed only in M. arvalis and as higher residency and reproductive activity. Seasonal effects of climate showed no influence on the reproductivity of both rodent species, but presented itself as higher site fidelity of M. arvalis and higher abundance of A. sylvaticus on areas with manipulated climate conditions. More fleas were recorded in 2019 than in 2020. Beyond that, there was no influence of land use on the number of recorded parasites. As a trend and without statistical significance, a higher tick burden was found in M. arvalis and a higher flea burden in A. sylvaticus climate-manipulated areas. Tickassociated infection with B. afzelii showed a trend towards a habitat effect. Sporadic effects of climate lagging behind land use suggest that land use will probably only change slightly in the future. In contrast, the likely occurrence of seasonally larger rodent populations and potentially higher tick prevalence under future climate conditions indicate an intensifying interaction of vector-borne pathogens.
