Endemismo vegetal en el distrito fitogeográfico Guamuhaya (Cuba Central) | Plant endemism in the Guamuhaya phytogeographic district (Central Cuba)

El macizo montañoso Guamuhaya ubicado al sur de la región central de Cuba, siempre ha llamado la atención a estudiosos nacionales y extranjeros, debido a la alta diversidad de especies. En este macizo se han realizado numerosos estudios sobre la flora vascular, en la que reflejan diferentes porcentajes de su flora endémica. Dada la importancia de los endemismos distritales, por su distribución limitada y el alto grado de adaptación al ambiente y vulnerabilidad a cambios globales y locales, este trabajo se propuso actualizar la flora vascular endémica en el distrito, por categorías de endemismos y en función de su distribución, además se discutieron las relaciones florísticas de este con el resto de los sectores y distritos de Cuba. Se registraron 301 endémicos cubanos para el sector (77 familias y 201 géneros), de las cuales 99 solo se encuentran en el sector central. Las familias mejor representadas fueron Rubiaceae, Asteraceae, Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae, Euphorbiaceae y Orchidaceae. Los arbustos constituyeron el hábito de crecimiento predominante en todas las categorías de endemismos. Del total de especies endémicas presentes en Guamuhaya, 221 especies tienen algún tipo de categoría de amenaza, la mayoría en Peligro crítico o En Peligro.

English. The Guamuhaya mountain massif located south of the central region of Cuba, has always called the attention of national and foreign scholars, due to the high diversity of species. Numerous studies have been carried out on the vascular flora in this massif, reflecting different percentages of its endemic flora. Given the importance of district endemisms, due to their limited distribution and the high degree of adaptation to the environment and vulnerability to global and local changes, this work aimed to update the endemic vascular flora in the district, by endemism categories and based on their distribution; also, the floristic relations of this with the rest of the sectors and districts of Cuba were discussed also. 301 Cuban endemics were registered for the sector (77 families and 201 genera), of which 99 are only found in the central sector. The best represented families were Rubiaceae, Asteraceae, Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Orchidaceae. Shrubs are the predominant growth habit in all categories of endemics. Of the total number of endemic species present in Guamuhaya, 221 species have some type of threat category, most of them Critically Endangered or Endangered.
