Operation of the Central Pivot Evaluating the Dynamics of Humidity in the Soil with TRD | Operación del pivote central evaluando la dinámica de humedad en el suelo con TRD

This work presents the study of the operation of the central pivot irrigation system for the cultivation of corn over the typical Red Ferralitic soil by analyzing the precipitations and the volumetric content of soil moisture obtained with the Digital Rain Gauge Portable TPJ-32 and the use of a portable TDR probe that applies the technique of Time Domain Reflectometry. The volumetric soil moisture content readings were taken at 192 points uniformly distributed in each test at different depths of 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm. The results obtained show that the use of the TDR probe is a fast and efficient method that allowed to evaluate the behavior of the volumetric content of soil moisture between the upper limit and lower limit of the reserve easily usable for the crop. A 15% increase in crop yields was achieved by adjusting the irrigation interval of four and five days and a reduction of the volume of water to be applied in 31.13% and of the electric energy consumed for irrigation in 25%.

En el trabajo se presenta el estudio de la operación del sistema de riego de pivote central para el cultivo del maíz sobre el suelo Ferralítico Rojo Típico, mediante el análisis de las precipitaciones y el contenido volumétrico de humedad en el suelo, obtenidos con el Pluviómetro Digital Portátil TPJ-32 y el uso de una sonda TDR portátil que aplica la técnica de Reflectometría de Dominio Temporal (Time Domain Reflectometry). Se tomaron las lecturas del contenido volumétrico de humedad en el suelo en 192 puntos distribuidos uniformemente en cada ensayo a diferentes profundidades de 20 cm, 30 cm, y 40 cm. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la utilización de la sonda TDR es un método rápido y eficaz, que permitió evaluar el comportamiento del contenido volumétrico de humedad en el suelo entre el límite superior y límite inferior de la reserva fácilmente utilizable para el cultivo. Se logró un aumento del 15% de los rendimientos del cultivo con el ajuste del intervalo de riego de cuatro y cinco días y una disminución del volumen de agua a aplicar en 31,13% y de la energía eléctrica consumida para el riego en 25%.
