The article analyzes the current situation in providing Georgia with electroenergy. Based on the analysis of the new situation in the world, it is concluded that for the normal development of the country and a radical reduction in imports, a sharp increase in electroenergy production is necessary. At the same time, to ensure the energy security of the country, local, mainly hydropower resources should be used to the maximum. An important role should be given to the development of solar and wind energy. Based on the solution of the corresponding optimization problem, the prospects of "smart" networks are shown. The environmental problems caused by the construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants are also analyzed. It is shown that the solution of environmental problems is not an insurmountable difficulty. However, this problem must be addressed by optimizing the harm-tobenefit ratio.
