Starting from the reviews published by thisjournal and the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation in 2001and 2003, respectively, this paper discusses updatedinternational information on brassinosteroids and plantresponses to abiotic stress, such as heat, water, saline andheavy metal stresses. This review also presents the advancesof this subject obtained in Cuba, both by applying24-epibrassinolide and some spirostane analogues, as well asthe response of tomato genotypes with different castasteronecontents to high temperature stress.

A partir de la revisión bibliográfica publicada enesta revista en el 2001 y la publicada por la Journal of PlantGrowth Regulation en el 2003, en este trabajo se hace unaactualización sobre este tema, analizando y discutiendo lainformación que existe, a nivel internacional, acerca de losbrasinoesteroides y las respuestas de las plantas a estrésabióticos, como son el estrés térmico, hídrico, salino y pormetales pesados. Se presentan, además, los avances que eneste tema se han obtenido en Cuba, tanto con la aplicación de24-epibrasinólida como con la de algunos análogosespirostánicos; así como la respuesta ante el estrés de altastemperaturas de algunos genotipos de tomate con diferentesniveles endógenos de castasterona.
