Effects of Valencia �??Late�?? orange (Citrus sinensis L.) harvesting season on citrus industrial manufacture in three edaphoclimatic regions of Cuba | EFECTO DE LA �?POCA DE RECOLECCI�?N DE LA NARANJA (Citrus sinensis L.) This report studied the Valencia �??Late�?? orangefruit from ten citrus enterprises located in three edaphoclimaticregions of Cuba during 2000, 2001 and 2002, supplying frozenconcentrated orange juice to different processing plants: Pinardel Río, Ceballos and Contramestre. The potential yieldbehavior of citrus fruit supplied to processing was evaluated.The lowest values were obtained in the eastern enterprises ofContramaestre, so that less fruit volumes are required to produceone ton of frozen concentrated orange juice. This industrialplant maintained the best efficiency of the system in termsof potential yield compared with the rest evaluated. Theseresults showed the highest values of TSS were recorded in theeastern region, so that 91.6 % of citrus fruit reached averagevalues between 11.3 and 15.57 oBx; 100 % fruit reached over51.6 % juice content. The quality variables of citrus fruitassociated to industrial yield, total soluble solids and juicecontent showed a sustained rise in February and March,causing an important effect on the picking date of Valencia�??Late�?? orange during the three years evaluated.

El presente estudio se realizó con la especie Citrussinensis (L) Osbeck variedad Valencia �??Late�?? procedente de 10empresas citrícolas del país, ubicadas en tres regionesedafoclimáticas, que suministran la fruta a la producción dejugo concentrado congelado de naranja (JCCN), en las plantasindustriales de Pinar del Río, Ceballos y Contramaestre duranteel período 2000-2002. Se evaluó el comportamiento del rendimientopotencial (RP) de la fruta utilizada como materia primapara el procesamiento industrial, obteniendo los menores valoresdados por las empresas de la región oriental asociada a laplanta industrial de Contramaestre, que se traduce en destinarmenos volúmenes de fruta para producir 1 t de JCCN. Se mantuvola tendencia de esta planta industrial de obtener la mejoreficiencia del sistema en términos de RP comparadas con lasdos restantes en estudio. Estos resultados mostraron que enla región oriental se alcanzaron los mayores valores de SST delsistema, ya que el 91.6 % de la fruta alcanza valores mediodesde 11.3 hasta 15.57 0Bx, mientras el 100 % de la fruta alcanzaun contenido de jugo por encima de 51.6 %. Las variables decalidad de la fruta asociadas al rendimiento industrial de sólidossolubles totales (SST) y contenido de jugo (CJ) mostraronun incremento sostenido en febrero-marzo, causando un efectoimportante en la fecha de recolección de la naranja Valencia�??Late�?? durante los tres años evaluados.
