Relationship between some productivity indexes and light, water and nutrient availability in a coffee plantation within its first fruit production | RELACI�?N ENTRE ALGUNOS ÍNDICES DE PRODUCTIVIDAD Y LA DISPONIBILIDAD DE LUZ, AGUA Y NUTRIENTES EN UN CAFETAL DURANTE SU PRIMERA PRODUCCI�?N DE FRUTOS

An essay was undertaken with the aim of getting adeeper insight at the relationship between two groups of variables:leaf area and fruit production, as variables featuring theproductive potential of a coffee plantation (Coffea arabica, L.) onone side and the daily mean irradiance, soil moisture, leaf contentof nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, as variablescharacterizing available ecosystem resources, on the other side,by means of the multivariate approach of cannonical correlationson correlation matrixes. Data were gathered within an experimentalarea located in «Buey Arriba», Granma province, at 450 mabove sea level, using «Caturra Rojo» cv. and a design includingplots under a gradient of solar exposition, from open sun to 45 %sun. For the statistical analysis, leaf area, soil moisture and contentsof N, P and K were evaluated in 30 randomly distributed plants inthe whole area; they were separated according to flowering, fruitgrowth and harvest stages, then a value of 0.7384 was obtained,which was significant according to ?2 test (p<0.05) for cannonicalcorrelation, taking into account harvesting data. Such correlationwas not significant for data of the other stages. The interpretationof analytical results based on correlations between the rootsobtained by the method and variables observed denotes the effectof a strong defoliation of plants at open sun and a negativerelationship between fruit production and K content at harvesting.The method employed shows relationships among imperceptiblevariables in the single correlation matrixes.

El trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de profundizar en larelación que se establece entre dos grupos de variables: el áreafoliar (AF) y la producción de frutos, como variables que caracterizanel potencial productivo de un cafetal (Coffea arabica L.) porun lado, y la irradiancia media diaria, la humedad del suelo (HS) yel contenido foliar de nitrógeno, fósforo y potasio, variables queen su conjunto caracterizan los recursos disponibles en elecosistema por otro, utilizando el método multivariado de correlacionescanónicas sobre las matrices de correlación. Los datos setomaron en un área experimental establecida en el Municipio deBuey Arriba, provincia Granma, a 450 m snm utilizando la variedadCaturra Rojo y con un diseño que generó un gradiente deexposición a la radiación desde parcelas a plena exposición solarhasta parcelas con un exceso de sombra. Para el análisis estadístico,el AF, la HS y los contenidos del N, P y K, se evaluaron en 30plantas distribuidas al azar en toda el área; se agruparon por separadopara las etapas de floración, crecimiento de los frutos y cosecha.Se obtuvo un valor de 0.7384, significativo según la prueba de?2 (P<0.05), para la correlación canónica considerando los datos dela etapa de cosecha; para los datos de las otras etapas dicha correlaciónno resultó significativa. La interpretación de los resultadosdel análisis, basada en las correlaciones entre las raíces obtenidas porel método y las variables observadas, resalta el efecto de una fuertedefoliación en las plantas a plena exposición solar y una relaciónnegativa entre la producción de frutos y el contenido de K durante lacosecha. El método utilizado refleja relaciones entre las variables queson imperceptibles en las matrices de correlaciones simples.
