Assessing acceptance of treated wastewater reuse in Jordan: A study of knowledge and preferences

Jordan, like many other countries, is facing a water crisis. Population growth, climate change, and a lack of water resources are all putting a strain on the world's water supply. This study examines the acceptance of treated wastewater reuse in Jordan for various applications, including industrial, agricultural, domestic, and service uses. The study surveyed adult Jordanians to assess their understanding of and attitudes toward wastewater reuse. Results showed that Jordanians recognize the environmental benefits of wastewater reuse, but they prefer applications that involve less human interaction. They are more willing to accept wastewater reuse when it is approved by experts and health organizations. The study also found significant differences in acceptance based on age, income, and education levels. The study concludes that increasing education and knowledge about wastewater reuse may be an effective way to increase acceptance in Jordan. It is suggested that public awareness campaigns be launched to educate the public about the region's water shortages and potential solutions.
