Impacts of the increase of the half level the sea on the coastal vegetation of the Integral Forest Company Las Tunas, Cuba | Impactos del aumento del nivel medio del mar sobre la vegetación costera de la Empresa Forestal Integral Las Tunas, Cuba

English. Using the scenario of increase of the level of the sea for Cuba, with a high climatic sensibility, were considered the expected impacts on the coastal vegetation of the Integral Forest Company Las Tunas. Results demonstrated the strong incidence with which the penetration of the sea will be revealed on the coastal areas, evidencing an affectation in 2050 of 8 188 ha and in 2100 a total of 19 802 ha, with impacts of light intensity on 32 lots, moderate for 22 and strong in 35 for the second evaluated year. This situation will result in a significantly affection of the timber existences by the increment of flood and saline tenors; giving an idea of the magnitude of the damage and assuming that for that moment exist a similar situation to the current one, the company would have lost of 299 704.24 m3 approximately in the 2050 and of 792 545.80 m3 in the 2100. Among the principal species which will be more affected are Avicenia nitida Jacq., Rhizophora mangle L. ang Laguncularia racemosa L. The associated saline intrusion, will not leave many options of survival for the existent vegetation when being dispersed on some of 57 772 ha.

Empleando el escenario de aumento del nivel del mar, definido por el Instituto de Oceanología para Cuba con una sensibilidad climática alta, se estimaron los impactos esperables sobre la vegetación costera de la Empresa Forestal Integral Las Tunas. Los resultados demuestran la fuerte incidencia con que se podrá revelar la penetración del mar sobre estas áreas, evidenciando la afectación de 8188 ha y 19 802 ha para 2050 y 2100, respectivamente, manifestándose con impactos leves sobre 32 lotes, moderados para 22 y fuertes en 35 para el segundo año evaluado. Esta situación traerá como consecuencia que se afecten significativamente las existencias maderables por inundación, perdiéndose aproximadamente 299 704,24 m3 de madera en 2050 y 792 545,80 m3 en 2100, considerando que para ese momento los bosques muestren un comportamiento similar al actual. Entre las especies que se verían más afectadas figuran Avicenia nitida Jacq., Rhizophora mangle L. y Laguncularia racemosa L. La intrusión salina asociada incidirá mayoritariamente sobre la formación manglar al dispersarse sobre unas 57 772 ha.
