A geração de populações sintéticas é uma possibilidade que tem sido pouco explorada no melhoramento do eucalipto. Para a fase de desenvolvimento, a principal dúvida que surge é qual seria o número de genitores para a geração das melhores populações. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo verificar qual seria esse número, fornecendo subsídios para a geração dessas populações. As simulações Monte Carlo foram realizadas com o intuito de responder a essa questão usando o programa R e linguagem matricial. Nas simulações foram considerados caracteres genéricos, seis classes de população base, quatro condições ambientais (herdabilidades distintas) e dois tamanhos de populações sintéticas. O número de genes envolvidos no controle genético dos caracteres em todas as situações foi fixado em 100, considerados independentes, ou seja, sem ligação. Não foram consideradas interações epistáticas. Foram realizadas 1000 simulações Monte Carlo de cada configuração envolvendo as combinações dos fatores estudados. De cada população sintética formada nessas simulações, foram tomadas as estatísticas descritivas (média, coeficiente de variação, mínimo e máximo) relativas à proporção de alelos favoráveis em relação ao número total de alelos. Da distribuição das 1000 simulações de cada sintético também foram obtidas as mesmas estatísticas descritivas. Foi observado que o aumento do número de genitores (s) teve o efeito de reduzir a média do sintético em relação à proporção de alelos favoráveis e favorecer a segregação de um número maior de genes, acarretando no aumento de variabilidade (coeficiente de variação e amplitude). Foi buscado então um balanço entre a redução da média, menor adaptação da população sintética, e o aumento da variabilidade com a utilização do ganho esperado com a seleção. Realizou-se assim a análise do modelo linear com platô. O platô estimado, valor de s em que houve a estabilização do ganho esperado com a seleção, foi considerado como o número ideal de genitores para a geração do sintético. Os resultados mostraram que para a estabilização do ganho esperado com a seleção, para intensidades de seleção de 1% e 5%, utilizando populações base pouco melhoradas, são necessários cinco ou seis genitores, independentemente da herdabilidade e da dominância. Ademais, para populações base melhoradas, o número ótimo de genitores deve estar entre seis e quinze para gerar as populações sintéticas, independentemente da herdabilidade e da dominância.

The generation of synthetic populations is a possibility that has been little explored in the eucalyptus breeding. For the development phase, the main question that arises is what would be the ideal number of parents for the generation of better synthetic populations. This study aimed to ascertain what would be the number that support the generation of these populations optimally. Monte Carlo simulations were performed aiming to answer this question, using the R software and matrix language. In these simulations generic traits, six classes of the base population, four environments (different heritabilities) and two sizes of synthetic populations were considered. The number of genes involved in the genetic control of the traits in all circumstances was settled at 100 and they were considered independently, without linkage. Epistatic interactions were not considered. A total of 1000 Monte Carlo simulations for each configuration involving combinations of factors studied was performed. For each synthetic population, descriptive statistics as mean, coefficient of variation, minimum and maximum values were taken on the proportion of favorable alleles. From the distribution of the 1000 simulations of each synthetic the same descriptive statistics previously presented was also obtained. It was observed that increasing the number of parent (s) had the effect of reducing the synthetic mean in relation to the proportion of favorable alleles and favor the segregation of a larger number of genes, resulting in increased variability (coefficient of variation and range). A balance between the reduction of the mean, lower adaptation of the synthetic population, and the increment of the variability (coefficient of variability) was sought using the expected gain with selection. Then, it was fitted the linear response plateau model. The estimated plateau, s value for which there was a stabilization of the expected gain with selection, was seen as the ideal number of parents for the generation of the synthetic population. The results showed that stabilization of the expected gain with selection, considering selection intensities of 1% and 5%, with slightly improved base populations was found to be five or six parents, regardless of the heritability and dominance. Moreover, for improved base populations, the optimal number of parents to generate the synthetic populations was found to be between six and fifteen, regardless of the heritability and dominance.
