Respuesta del cultivo de maíz, como forraje, a diferentes dosis de aplicación de materia organica, en el cantón Machala

El maíz (Zea mays L.) es crucial a nivel mundial por su versatilidad y papel en la alimentación humana y animal, así como en la industria. Es una fuente esencial de calorías y nutrientes, desempeñando un rol vital en la seguridad alimentaria global. La incorporación de materia orgánica (MO), como el abono orgánico, en la agricultura moderna ha demostrado ser beneficiosa, al mejorar la calidad del suelo, aumentar la retención de agua y proporcionar nutrientes que favorecen el crecimiento de cultivos como el maíz. En América Latina, el maíz es fundamental tanto en agricultura como en cultura, y países como México, Brasil y Argentina están adoptando el uso de MO y otros fertilizantes orgánicos para mejorar la productividad y sostenibilidad agrícola. En Ecuador, el maíz es especialmente importante en provincias como El Oro, donde es una fuente significativa de ingresos y alimento. En el cantón Machala, la investigación sobre el uso de MO en la producción de maíz busca identificar los beneficios potenciales de esta práctica. La aplicación de MO puede mejorar la estructura y fertilidad del suelo, aumentar los rendimientos del cultivo y fomentar prácticas agrícolas sostenibles. Sin embargo, la escasez de MO y la degradación del suelo, exacerbadas por prácticas agrícolas intensivas y el uso de fertilizantes químicos, han reducido la fertilidad del suelo y la capacidad de las plantas para absorber nutrientes, resultando en menores rendimientos y suelos menos resilientes. El factor de estudio fue la aplicación de materia orgánica al cultivo de maíz para forraje, con cinco tratamientos y 5 repeticiones, se utilizó un diseño experimental en cuadrado latino 5x5 para identificar posibles diferencias estadísticas de los distintos tratamientos. Las variables evaluadas fueron diámetro del tallo, altura de planta, Largo de la hoja, ancho de la hoja, Peso de la biomasa fresca y seca del maíz. La incorporación de materia orgánica a diferentes dosis 1) Control, 2) 10 t/ha, 3) 15t/ha 4) 20 t/ha 5) 25t/ha. Los resultados subrayan la necesidad de identificar la cantidad ideal de materia orgánica (MO) que maximice los beneficios sin impactar negativamente el medio ambiente ni incrementar los costos de producción. La aplicación de 20 toneladas por hectárea demostró ser particularmente eficiente en diversos parámetros analizados, mientras que la dosis de 25 toneladas por hectárea también ofreció resultados positivos notables, pero se pudo observar notoriamente que en 20 t/ha paso lo que se llama “consumo de flujo”, no se notó avance ya que esa es la cantidad exacta donde el maíz puede aprovechar al máximo los nutrientes.

The incorporation of organic matter (OM), such as organic fertilizer, in modern agriculture has proven to be beneficial, improving soil quality, increasing water retention and providing nutrients that promote the growth of crops such as corn. In Latin America, corn is essential in both agriculture and culture, and countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are adopting the use of OM and other organic fertilizers to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. In Ecuador, corn is especially important in provinces like El Oro, where it is a significant source of income and food. In the Machala canton, research on the use of OM in corn production seeks to identify the potential benefits of this practice. The application of OM can improve soil structure and fertility, increase crop yields, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. However, OM shortages and soil degradation, exacerbated by intensive agricultural practices and the use of chemical fertilizers, have reduced soil fertility and the ability of plants to absorb nutrients, resulting in lower yields and less resilient soils. The study factor was the application of organic matter to the corn crop for forage, with five treatments and 5 repetitions, a 5x5 Latin square experimental design was used to identify possible statistical differences of the different treatments. The variables evaluated were stem diameter, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, weight of fresh and dry biomass of corn. The incorporation of organic matter at different doses 1) Control, 2) 10 t/ha, 3) 15t/ha, 4) 20 t/ha 5) 25t/ha. The results highlight the need to identify the ideal amount of organic matter (OM) that maximizes benefits without negatively impacting the environment or increasing production costs. The application of 20 tons per hectare proved to be particularly efficient in various parameters analyzed, while the dose of 25 tons per hectare also offered notable positive results, but it could be clearly observed that at 20 t/ha what is called “consumption of flow”, no progress was noted since that is the exact amount where the corn can make the most of the nutrients.
