Growing global environmental problems are forcing humanity to think about transforming the basic principles of doing business, as the traditional economic order leads to an increase in the volume of pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, excessive depletion of the main types of fossil fuels, and considerable accumulation of industrial and household waste. In these circumstances, the alternative is to use low-carbon energy sources, which will minimise destructive environmental impacts. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to substantiate the theoretical and methodological foundations of bioeconomic activity and practical recommendations for the development of a sustainable bioeconomy in Ukraine. To fulfil this purpose, the study employed general scientific and special methods of theoretical and empirical research, specifically, at the theoretical level, the methods of theoretical generalisation, abstract-logical, hypothetical, historical, methods of ascent from the abstract to the concrete, etc. The empirical level includes comparative, descriptive, SWOT strategic analysis, graphs, and tables. Using the methods outlined in the historical retrospective study, the study monitored the volume of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions into the atmosphere due to the considerable use of fossil fuels, which provokes an increase in global environmental problems in society. Under these conditions, sustainable economic activity is gaining popularity, allowing for the production of renewable energy from renewable resources, agricultural, forestry and fishery residues, as well as organic industrial and household waste. The study outlined foreign practices and Ukrainian initiatives to promote bioeconomic activity, considering the country’s natural resource and intellectual potential, as well as financial national support for the bioindustry. Considering the findings of the study, the strengths and weaknesses of the sustainable bioeconomy were systematised using SWOT analysis, key threats to its formation in Ukraine were foreseen, and constructive opportunities for its development were identified. The practical value of this study lies in the scientific substantiation of proposals for promising strategic guidelines for the development of a sustainable bioeconomy with strengthening its capabilities and finding ways to minimise the destructive impact of key threats

The shelf life of fermented dairy products is only 3-5 days and is extended by the addition of preservatives to the production process, but the biological value of the kefir beverage is reduced. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of using hop extract in the biotechnology of fermented milk beverage. Three samples of kefir beverage were produced: control (K) – using traditional technology based on dry starter “Kefir VIVO”; experimental (D1) – with the above type of starter in the amount of 0.05% by weight of milk and hop extract in the amount of 5% by weight of milk. The experimental sample (D2) was fermented using hop extract (10% by weight of milk). It was found that when using only hop extract for fermentation of the prototype kefir beverage, the duration of the technological process of its production is the same as when using dry starter and does not exceed 7-8 hours. The number of beneficial viable lactic acid microorganisms (Lactococcus lactis ssp.) in the fermented milk beverage made based on hop extract was 1.0∙107 CFU/cm3 . These microorganisms have probiotic properties, which makes it possible to classify beverages enriched with hop extract as functional foods. In the experimental samples made using hop extract, yeast colonies were found in the amount of 3∙107 and 8∙107 CFU/cm3 , respectively. During the experimental storage period, the pH of all product samples was (4.71-4.46). Therewith, the acidity of the sample (D2) increased more slowly. Its organoleptic characteristics were improving. The shelf life has been extended to 10-15 days. The results of the study showed that milk can be fermented with hop extract, resulting in a new functional type of kefir beverage with high organoleptic characteristics, viability of beneficial microflora (lactic acid bacteria and yeast) and extended shelf life

Preventing soil degradation is an important task of modern agrarian science. Preservation and increase in beneficial soil microflora are a precondition for satisfactory ecological functioning of soil and its fertility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamics of beneficial soil microflora in winter wheat crops under the impact of mineral fertilisers and Agrobacterium radiobacter on the lands of the south of Ukraine. The study was conducted in threefold replication in the conditions of the Kherson region in 2016- 2020 in the experimental fields of the Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The study used a systematic design, and the following factors were investigated: no fertiliser and Agrobacterium radiobacter; N120P90; N90P60 + Agrobacterium radiobacter; N120P90 + Agrobacterium radiobacter. The study on the microflora composition in the soil layer at 0-30 cm was carried out in the main stages of winter wheat growth and development through the inoculation of nutritious environment. Statistical analysis was performed using the methods of analysis of variance, correlation, and regression analysis. Dynamic changes in the soil biota composition under the influence of the studied factor were established. The slightest response to mineral fertilisers and bacterial preparation application was in ammonifying bacteria, while the strongest response was in cellulosedegrading microorganisms. The winter wheat harvesting revealed a decrease in the number of ammonifying bacteria in the soil, while the number of nitrifying and cellulose-degrading microflora increased significantly. Regression models for the prediction of the number of nitrifying bacteria and cellulose-degrading microorganisms, developed based on experimental data, have great accuracy (the error is 3.78% and 7.79%), and allow determining the adverse effect of phosphorus fertiliser on the microflora of dark-chestnut soil. The study has no analogues in Ukraine and expands theoretical knowledge about the influence of mineral fertilisers and bacterial preparation, containing Agrobacterium radiobacter, on the composition of beneficial microflora of the dark-chestnut soil

Phytosanitary monitoring of forest stands is currently a relevant and important area of scientific research that ensures observation, assessment, and forecasting of the dynamics (changes) of the quantitative and qualitative (including sanitary) state of forests and underlies the development of an effective system of tree protection. The purpose of this study was to identify the species composition and distribution of dominant phytopathogen species in the Modryna tract of the Zvyagelske Forestry branch and to identify the primary factors of Larix decidua Mill. decline. This study employed phytopathological, entomological, forest inventory, and comparative methods. The study identified and registered typical symptoms of damage and the consequences of the harmful effects of pests of L. decidua trees in the Modryna tract, leading to a general weakening of their sanitary condition. Symptoms of larch needle cast (meria needle blight) and browning were recorded on the needles; on the trunks – typical manifestations of cankers and fruiting bodies of a unique basidiomycete – Lariciphomes officinalis. Apart from infectious pathologies, sporadic wind and storm damaged larch trees, as well as other negative effects of wind exposure, were recorded in the study areas. The species composition of the pests of the surveyed larch trees included the following insect species: Cephalcia lariciphila, Sacchiphantes viridis Ratz., Coleophora laricella, Zeiraphera diniana Gn., Lasiomma laricicola Karl. It was generalised that the main threat to the centuries-old larch trees is the complex effect of anthropogenic, abiotic, and biotic (including parasitic) environmental factors that constantly and to varying degrees affect the sanitary and physiological state of ancient larch trees. The findings of this study provide information for predicting the risks of spreading pathogens and pests, which allows managing these risks and preventing their further spread

The need to find ways to improve the quality characteristics of milk as a basis for increasing the competitiveness of dairy products in the global market determines the relevance of the study. Ukraine’s dairy industry is one of the critical ones in the agricultural sector of the economy, as it provides the country’s population with vital foodstuffs. The purpose of this study was to substantiate the areas of solving organisational and economic problems of development of the dairy industry to meet the needs of the domestic market with quality dairy products and increase export potential. The study was conducted to identify the main reasons for the transformational changes that have taken place in dairy farming and to outline the promising areas for the development of this industry in the context of improving product quality. This study focused on European and national requirements for the quality of raw milk. The following methods of economic research were used in the analytical material: economic and statistical, comparative analysis, graphical, logical generalisation, systematic approach, systemic and structural analysis, calculation, and design. The study analysed the data of agricultural enterprises and households engaged in milk production in Ukraine for 2010-2022 and recalculated the purchase prices for raw milk in relation to the European quality indicators. The findings of this study showed that ensuring the competitiveness of dairy products depends on the quality of milk. It was found that it is higher in European countries, and therefore high standards for the quality of raw milk become a barrier to entry into European markets for most domestic dairy processing enterprises. Accordingly, the state’s strategy should focus on increasing the production of high-quality raw milk and growing export potential by forming specialised milk production cooperatives for dairy processing enterprises. The practical significance of the obtained results is that the author’s recommendations can be used by agricultural enterprises or private households in their everyday activities

Modern energy systems are complex multi-component systems that use mechanical, thermal, and electrical energy. As fossil fuel reserves decline, interest in renewable energy sources is growing everywhere, which is driving research into biogas production technologies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate technological approaches to reduce resource costs to produce renewable energy sources from organic waste (manure) from pig farms. This study employed the bibliographic method of research, laboratory method, biochemical methods (determination of the chemical composition of manure and wastewater), statistical, mathematical (calculation of economic efficiency), multicriteria analysis, and analytical method. Based on the conducted research, a resource-saving technology for the preparation of wastewater for use in the production of renewable energy in industrial pork production was developed, which ensures a reduction in capital and operating costs for biogas generation. It was found that the settling of the initial wastewater with a moisture content of 96.94±0.18% produces a sediment with a moisture content of 91.23±0.25% and a liquid fraction with a moisture content of 98.86±0.42%. At the same time, the organic matter in the sediment extracted from the original wastewater is about 87%, and in the liquid fraction – about 98% of the dry matter. The technological process includes centrifugal and gravity separation of the initial wastewater into fractions (sediment and liquid fraction), gravitational thickening of the sediment and its dosing for methane digestion to produce biogas. It was shown that the application of the proposed approaches can reduce capital investments by about 30%. Based on the multicriteria analysis, it was found that the proposed biogas production technology has a significant advantage in terms of the complex efficiency indicator of each of the considered options N(Ck) compared to the idealised one. For this technology, the objective function is the smallest according to the criteria considered and amounts to 0.1672, while the objective function of the baseline technology is 1.9 times worse. The findings of the study on the use of livestock by-products for resource-saving biogas production are planned to be used at pork production complexes and farms

Given the high contagiousness and rapid spread of the rinderpest virus, timely and accurate diagnosis plays a key role in preventing epidemics and taking measures to control the disease. The study aims to evaluate the efficiency of using multiplex primers in the polymerase chain reaction method for the detection of rinderpest virus ribonucleic acid. The study included the analysis of samples such as blood serum and conjunctival swabs from 50 animals with clinical manifestations of the disease. The experiment involved the collection of clinical samples such as blood serum and conjunctival washings. The results demonstrate the high specificity of the developed primers. These primers stand out because they use two pairs of the same gene region with different variable sequences that are specific for all strains of the rinderpest virus. In the polymerase chain reaction, both pairs of primers are used simultaneously at equal concentrations and under the same conditions. An additional polymerase chain reaction performed using these primers at the optimal annealing temperature confirmed the successful amplification and specificity of the primers. The absence of dimers and nonspecific products in the negative control confirmed the purity and reliability of the results. Thus, these results demonstrate that the use of these multiplex polymerase chain reaction primers allows for the efficient detection of the ribonucleic acid of the rinderpest virus of different strains. The developed multiplex primers represent an innovative method for the diagnosis of rinderpest virus with the potential for use in veterinary practice and animal disease control

The security of agricultural sector development is increasingly becoming a relevant issue in modern conditions, as the agricultural sector determines the sustainability of the economy and ensures the country’s food security. Growing risks, such as climate change, economic difficulties and geopolitical conflicts, highlight the need to improve the security of agricultural production systems, which makes the study relevant. The study aimed to conduct a systematic analysis of innovative tools for managing the risks of production activities of agricultural enterprises and their impact on the formation of secure development in the agricultural sector of Ukraine. To achieve this goal, the method of analysis and modelling was used. Study results indicate that innovative approaches to risk management have a decisive impact on the sustainability and efficiency of agricultural production systems. To achieve a stable level of safe development of agricultural enterprises, it is necessary to focus on the implementation of key areas, such as maintaining the food base at a level sufficient to ensure a healthy diet, ensuring an adequate level of effective demand for the population and eliminating dependence on imports, aimed at protecting the interests of domestic producers of agricultural raw materials. The study demonstrated that institutional factors of risk management form an integrated system, where efficiency depends on the implementation of specific strategies for the development of agricultural institutions aimed at introducing innovative tools into the production cycle of agricultural enterprises. Furthermore, due to the accumulation of large amounts of production, financial, logistical and innovative potential of agricultural enterprises in the Forest-Steppe and Polissia regions, the level of safe development of agricultural enterprises is significantly increasing. This indicates their high capacity for sustainable reproduction of production and making a significant contribution to the agricultural sector of Ukraine. The study is of practical importance for agricultural enterprises, research institutions and government agencies, which can use the results to improve risk management strategies and increase the level of security of agricultural sector development

Regulation of the reproductive capacity of cats using megestrol acetate (a gestagenic preparation) contributes to the development of pathological processes in the uterus, ovaries, and imbalance of gonadal hormones. Therefore, it is essential to investigate and scientifically substantiate the pathogenetic processes in the body of cats under medical contraception. The purpose of this study was to substantiate the pathomorphological changes and dynamics of certain blood parameters in the body of cats under the use of megestrol acetate. The study employed clinical (examination, palpation), laboratory (haematological, biochemical, hormonal), morphological (examination of the genital organs of cats amputated during ovariohysterectomy) methods. A decrease in ovarian size in hypotrophic cats by 11.3×9.05% was found compared to the ovaries of healthy cats. The dependence of megestrol acetate administration on the occurrence of cystic formations in the ovaries was found, with an increase in ovaries in the experimental group by 1.7×2.47 times in follicular cysts and by 1.9×3.1 and 2.5×3.9 times in luteal cysts and polycystic cysts, respectively. It was found that the uterus in cats with megestrol acetate was increased by 3.16×1.93 times in the right horn and 2.84×2.1 times in the left horn compared to the uterus of healthy cats. The dynamics of progesterone (increase by 37.85%), follicle-stimulating hormone (decrease by 43.75%) and oestradiol (increase by 72.15%) were determined in comparison with intact animals. The increase in serum glucose levels in cats after megestrol administration by 34.31%, total protein by 25.0% and creatinine by 11.10%, aspartate aminotransferase by 43.84% (1.78 times) and alanine aminotransferase by 49.84% (1.99 times), and serum urea by 58.71% was substantiated. At the same time, haemoglobin levels decreased by 16.5%. The findings of this study can be used in the development of new methods and regimens of medical contraception with minimisation of risks of complications of the reproductive system, regulation of reproductive capacity, and prevention of infertility in cats
