В год 90-летнего юбилея ВНИИ селекции и семеноводства овощных культур и 90-летнего юбилея факультета садоводства и ландшафтной архитектуры РГАУ-МСХА им. К.А. Тимирязева исполнилось 75 лет со дня рождения и 55 лет трудовой, научной и педагогической деятельности известному учёному в области частной генетики и селекции овощных культур, главному научному сотруднику лаборатории генетики и цитологии, её Почётному заведующему, обладателю Золотой медали имени Н.И. Вавилова, заслуженному работнику ВНИИССОК, выпускнику плодфака МСХА им. К.А. Тимирязева, доктору сельскохозяйственных наук, профессору Николаю Ивановичу Тимину.

This review gives facts concerning the ecological situation in the world. The ways how to organize the enhanced consumption of ecologically safe food were shown.

On 1 November a leading scientists of Russia in vegetable plant breeding and seed production, a head of Research Institute of Protected Vegetable Cultivation, professor, principal scientist in plant breeding Sergey Fedorovich Gavrish marks his 60th birthday. His scientific achievements are the theoretical principals in new plant introduction, plant adaptation abilities, crop breeding and seed production. By virtue of his research work the current breeding methods have been improved and the ranges of new vegetable plants have been enlarged in Russia. His attainments and research work are widely known in Russia and other countries, and serve as practical and theoretical sources in vegetable crop breeding.
