2011
N.V. Moiysevich
The results presented in the article concerns the optimization of main technological means of bulb onion seed production in Byelorussia. The production mother bulbs from seeds and planting onion are highlighted in the article. Influence of both diameter of mother bulbs and density of grown plants on yield capacity and sowing quality of seeds has been identified. The comparative assessment of seed production in triennial and biennial cultivation has been carried out.

Molecular markers were used for screening of the onion plants of VNIISSOK's breeding for cytoplasmic male sterility. Allelic variations of the mitochondrial genes orfА501 and cob were reveled among studied onion samples. Use of the PCR-markers for these genes allowed identifying the cytoplasmic types of 14 onion genotypes. Application of these molecular markers in breeding program could help to select genotypes wit certain type of cytoplasm and may be useful for high throughput identification of cytoplasmic male sterile factors in large onion breeding populations.

I.T. Balashova | I.M. Grekov | E.P. Pronina
Pre-breeding research on 20 accessions from collection of broad bean (Vicia faba L.) of All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production has been performed. Four traits such as height of plan, height of stem from soil surface up to lowest bean (most important characteristics for mechanized harvesting), number of seeds in the bean, and the size of seeds were taken to be studied. Four promising accessions N 9, N 27, N 33, N 15d-vf18096 that have a set of three valuable characteristics, namely the high seed yield, large seeds, and great height of the stem from the soil surface up to lowest bean have been selected out at previous stage of breeding program.
