A study was conducted on 240 scavenging chickens randomly obtained from various districts from the state of Penang, Peninsular Malaysia. The chickens were closely examined for visible ectoparasites in the laboratory. The ectoparasites were collected using a blunt forceps and stored in universal bottles containing 70% ethanol. Ten species of ectoparasites were noted which consisted of five species of lice, two species of mites, two species of ticks and one species of chigger. The lice identifi ed were Menopon gallinae, Menacanthus pallidulus, Lipeurus caponis, Goniocotes gallinae and Goniodes dissimilis. These lice occurred in the fl uff of the feathers of the body especially the neck, back, abdomen and wings. The mites were Megninia sp. and Pterolichus sp. Examinations of the ears and combs revealed Haemaphysalis sp., the hard tick. Meanwhile, Ornithonyssus sp., the soft tick was found on feathers, whereas chigger, Leptotrombidium sp. was found attached to the skins. The study also revealed that M. gallinae was the most common ectoparasite with 76.7% occurrence, followed by Pterolichus sp. (69.6%), L. caponis (63.3%), M. pallidulus (41.7%), Leptotrombidium sp. (17.5%), G. gallinae (9.5%), Haemaphysalis sp. (6.7%), Megninia sp. (3.8%) and Ornithonyssus sp. (3.8%). The least common ectoparasite was G. dissimilis occurring in 2.1% of the chickens.

In vitro digestibility study was conducted to determine the effectsof supplementing fractionated Refined,Bleached and Deodorized Palm Stearin(RBDPST) on ruminal digestion. Fractionated RBDPST was soaked in incubation medium consisting of distilled water, buffer solution, trace element solution, micro and macro mineral solution, as well as rumen liquor that was collected from slaughtered cattle. This experiment was conducted at 39°C with an incubation period of 24 hours. Dried napier grass was used as control treatment. Gas producedwas recorded and collected to measure the methane gas produced. Methane gas produced from fractionated RBDPST was found to be relatively lower than control. This indicates that fractionated RBDPST had the ability to function as rumen bypass fat as it was not fully digested in the rumen.

Information on the nutritional content of animal feed is very important in improving milk production and the quality of milk produced. Data on the nutrition and nutritional quality of feed given to livestock are not comprehensively evaluated and recorded in any dairy farms in Johore. The objective of this study is to determine the nutritional content of selected feedstuffs, with production and quality of milk in selected dairy farms in Johore. Data were collected from 94 dairy farms during field visits through face-toface interviews. Feed samples collected were dairy cattle pellet, Napier grass, palm kernel cake, palm kernel expeller, soybean hull, corn, cassava peel and agricultural waste. Proximate analysis was performed using standard AOAC methods. The result of this study found that 67.0% of dairy farmers in Johore use Napier grass as the main source of fodder. The survey showed that 46% of the farmers in Johore give a suitable quantity of Napier grass based on body weight, while for milk production, the survey showed that 54 dairy farms in Johore produce less than 100 litres/day, 18 farms produce 101-200 litres/day, 12 farms produce 201-300 litres/day, and 10 farms produce more than 300 litres/day. The overall status of dairy farms in Johore shows that 60% of the farms produce an average of 5.1-10 litre milk per cow per day in which 92.5% of milk samples collected had acceptable Total Dissolved Solid values indicating good quality of milk production.

The mycotoxin test data base (2005–2009) of the Veterinary PublicHealth Laboratory (VPHL), Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia (DVS) showed that there was a significant increase (51%) of overall aflatoxin occurrences in various types of animal feed samples, especially those formulated from agricultural by-product, for the year 2008. A study was thus conducted to investigate if there could be some sources of mycotoxin contamination during theperiod of sample handling. Three different laboratory storage conditions were chosen for the study within a period of fourteendays i.e 4 °C, room temperature (in light) with mean relative humidity of 62.5%, and room temperature (in dark) with mean relative humidity of 55.7%. The observations showed that there were nosignificant differences in total aflatoxin, zearalenone, and fumonisin detections in all storage conditions as screened by the ELISA technique. However 11– 50% inconsistencies of the mycotoxinconcentrations detected were observed within the samples.

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was analyzed the efficiency of administration of nonconventional feed materials in diets of highly productive cows and its influence of indexes of natural resistance at different physiological stages of animals. In the process of studying of adaptation processes of highly productive cows at different stages of lactation it was determined that feeding with nonconventional melanoidin-humic additives at different physiological periods rendered a positive influence of highly productive cows, promoted the increasing of natural resistance of animals and improvement of immuno-humoral blood indexes. Administration of an additive Ehkolin in a ration of highly productive cows with stimulation for increasing milk flow in a dose of 100 ml per head promoted the increasing of blood serum bactericidal activity on 5,2%, beta-lysine activity - on 7,2%. Feeding of animals at a basic lactation period with 50 ml of preparation Ehkolin-2 provided the maximum increasing of lysozyme activity of blood serum (on 6,2%) and beta-lysine activity of blood serum (on 12,7%), and also promoted the activation of leukocytopoiesis. Addition of Ehkolin-3 in ration structure of dry cows in a dose of 750 ml increased the indexes of lysozyme activity of blood serum on 7-8,6%, bactericidal activity of blood serum - on 2,2-3,6% and beta-lysine activity of blood serum - on 2,2-3,6%.

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was studied the efficiency of application of granulated and extruded lupine (Lupinus) in feeding of bull claves. It was determined that after lupine extruding the quantity of sugar in it increased on 45% due to lowering of starch content. The inclusion of extruded lupine into bull calves diets made it possible to increase the digestibility of dry and organic substances, protein and nitrogen-free extractive substances. The highest average daily weight gain (842 gram) was stated at claves which were fed with mixed fodder with 15% of extruded lupine; this was on 7,5% than in a control group. In the conditions of feeding with the granulated lupine the average daily weight gain increased on 5,3% in comparison with crushed one. In course of study there was analyzed the dependence chemical composition of lupine on the processing method; blood composition of the studied animals; diets of experimental animals; digestibility of nutrient substances of forages; balance and intake of nitrogen; biochemical blood composition; changes of live weight and average daily weight gain.

Research on working out of a new fodder additive on the basis of rape (Brassica napus) phospholipids which included mineral substances necessary for normal functioning of cattle was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. Results of biochemical analysis of 35240 blood samples revealed that 15-40% of studied animals had abnormalties in vitamin, protein and mineral metabolism and lowering of immunobiological disease resistance. There was correlation dependence between the degree of metabolic orders and the state of forage reserve of a forage reserve. The lowering of forage reserve caused the increasing of metabolic disorders. As a whole forages of the surveyed farms were low in content of copper, zinc, cobalt and selenium and could not provide physiological requirements of animals without introduction into rations of specialized additives
