Numbers of Sertoli cells, quantitative rates of sperm production, and the efficiency of spermatogenesis in relation to the daily sperm output and seminal quality of young beef bulls.
1989
Berndtson W.E. | Igboeli G.
Data from 34 yearling Hereford or Angus bulls were used to investigate relationships of testicular size, quantitative rates of sperm production, Sertoli cell numbers, numbers of germ cells supported per Sertoli cell, and the efficiency of spermatogenesis to daily sperm output and seminal quality. Two ejaculates were collected by electroejaculation from each bull on each of 2 days/week throughout the study. The percentage of progressively motile sperm and the percentage of morphologically normal sperm were determined from aliquots of fresh semen. Additional aliquots of semen were frozen in glass ampules or plastic straws and subsequently evaluated for postthaw motility and percentage of sperm with intact acrosomes. Sertoli cell numbers, the numbers of germcells per Sertoli cell, and the efficiency of spermatogenesis were unrelated to the quality of fresh or frozen semen (P greater than 0.05). In first ejaculates, the numbers of sperm and motile sperm were related (P less than 0.05) to testicular parenchymal weight (r = 0.38, and 0.50), daily sperm production (r = 0.45 and 0.53), and spermatids per gram of testicular parenchyma (r = 0.35 and 0.34). Testicular parenchymal weight and daily sperm production also were related to daily sperm output and to the average daily motile sperm output of these bulls (P less than 0.05), but could account for less than 25% of the variability in these end points among bulls.

The effect of vacuum packaging on microbiological quality of roasted chicken. Roasted chicken were subjected to two different type of packaging treatment i.e. aerobic packaging with low density polyethylene bags (con) and vacuum packaging using barrier bags (VP.). Microbiological analyses were done on 0th, 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th day at refrigeration temperature (4±1oC). Studies revealed that microbial counts in terms of total plate count, proteolytic count and yeast and mold count increased significantly (P0.05) with the advancement of storage period and were significantly higher (P0.05) for aerobically packaged product throughout the observation period however, yeast and mould count observed only on 10th, 15th and 20th day of observation period. Lactic acid bacterial counts of vacuum packaged product were significantly higher as compared to aerobically packaged sample.

The effect of two thawing temperatures (37°Cfor30 sec. and 60°Cfor 7 sec.)on sperm survivability and conception rate in buffaloes with frozen semen of Murrah bulls was compared. Thawing at 60°C resulted in statistically significant increase (P0.05) in sperm survivability (motility, live spermatozoa and intact acrosomes) compared with thawing at 37°c. In all, 161 buffaloes were inseminated with frozen semen thawed at 37°Cand 159buffaloeswith semen thawed at 60°Cbetween 2006-07 and 2009-10. Conception rate of 64.15% and 50.31% was obtained with semen thawed at 60°C and 37°C, respectively, and the difference was significant (P0.05). Artificial insemination of buffaloes with frozen semen thawed at 60°C for 7 sec. could be safely used to improve both sperm survivability and conception rate in buffaloes.

Effect of strain (Khaki Campbell, Indigenous) and age (224 and 280 days) of ducks on the physical egg quality and presence of off-flavour in eggs was studied. The average of egg weight, yolk index and percent yolk weight for the two ages under study were significantly (P0.05) higher in Indigenous duck eggs whereas the same average value for albumen index, Haugh Unit score and percent albumen were higher in Khaki Campbell eggs. However, shape index, yolk colour score, shell thickness and percent shell weight of eggs were comparable for the two strains. Age of ducks had an insignificant influence on shape index, albumen height, shell thickness and yolk index as evident from the least difference between average values of two strains under study. But, the average values of the two strains under study were significantly affected by age for A.I., H.U. score, % albumen weight, % shell weight and % yolk weight. Presence of off-flavour was more pronounced in Khaki Campbell eggs than that of indigenous eggs.

Belarus concerns a biogeochemical province with the lowered content in environment of such microelements, as iodine, selenium, copper, cobalt, manganese, zinc and some other. It conducts to infringement of intensity and an orientation of processes of an exchange of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and finally - to decrease in their growth and development of an organism of young growth. High cost of foreign preparations for treatment and preventive maintenance of an alimentary anaemia, low bioavailability of iron and toxicity do not provide purposeful disesase control and immunodeficiencies arising on its background. The special urgency is got by research of means of complex preventive maintenance of an alimentary anaemia and immunodeficiencies. It has been established that the recipes N1-3 have proved to be non-toxic for laboratory animals and have no effect on the meat quality.

Analysis of veterinary and sanitary examination and quality of cattle slaughter products after cattle clamidiosis was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus from April, 2004 till January, 2006. Over all these research periods there were studied 1579 cattle heads and their slaughter products. The usual salting of meat and other products with the purpose of their clearing from chlamydiosis was unsuitable for practical application. Due to long-term (1,5-9 months) persistence of chlamydia in parenchymal organs for the prevention of people infection and chlamydiosis spreading it is necessary to realize slaughter of diseased animals at a diseased animal slaughter house or in a killing department at the end of working shift with observance of measures of individual preventive maintenance and the subsequent disinfection of a premise, the equipment, stock and tools.

Data оn evaluations of therapeutic efficacy of albendazol and fenbendazol agaonst acute and chronic forms of larval cestodiasis of animals were studied in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus by an example of experimentally infested sheep and rabbits. Application of albendazol and fenbendazol both separately and in complex with antioxidant vitamin and mineral additive against the chronic forms of cysticercosis tenuicollis and cysticercosis pisiform was inefficient. But application of albendazol against acute form of cysticercoses caused the lowering of invasion intensity in shepp and rabbits in 3 times, fenbendazol – in 2,6 times. Application of anthelmintic agents in complex with vitamin and mineral composition promoted the lowering of invasion intensity (in 5 and 4,1 times, respectively) and prevented the disease development in 60% of animals.
