Survivability of Listeria monocytogenes in clay loam soil was examined at 30° C for a period of 35 days. The microorganism inoculated in soil steadily declined from 3.5 × 10 6 g -1 to 3.9 × 10 4 g -1 (P = 0.05) on 35 th days. Destruction of normal soil microflora by heat treatment resulted in marginal rise in 3.3 × 10 6 g -1 of L. monocytogenes to 4.2 × 10 6 g -1 during the first 7 days, followed by steady decline to 5.6 × 10 4 g -1 on 35 th days. Heat treated soil inoculated with lower concentration of L. monocytogenes (3.6 × 10 4 g -1 ) supported sharp rise in its population to 4.8 × 10 6 g -1 (P=0.05) during the first weak which gradually declined, but remained higher (6.1 × 10 4 g -1 ) than the initial load even on 35 th days. In non-sterile soil, the rise was less appreciable but L. monocytogenes maintained its levels (10 4 g -1 ) during the experimental period. Survivability of the microorganisms was also observed in the soil with added chicken manure, cattle manure or sheep/goat manure.

| The ELISA technique was used to evaluate and compare young ovine humoral immune response during crotalic antiserum production. Animals were clinically evaluated throughout this process, and the neutralizing capacity of antisera raised against natural (NV) and Cobalt-60 irradiated (IrV) venoms of Crotalus durissus terrificus (C.d.t.) was verified by means of in vitro challenges. Three groups of six animals each were used: G1 received NV; G2 was inoculated with IrV; and G3 was used as control. Animals received six immunizations during 84 days at 14-day intervals. ELISA of antibody profile showed significant difference (p<5%) between experimental groups (G1<G2). These results justify the use of gamma radiation to detoxify Crotalus durissus terrificus venom like alternative to antiserum production. The neutralizing capacity of antiserum raised against IrV was fivefold higher than that of antiserum raised against NV. Results showed a new possibility of using ovines to produce commercial crotalic antiserum, which may be employed in the treatment of human and animal envenomation. Production cost might be reduced by the subsequent utilization of hyperimmunized ovines as food.

Studying of topical-product-induced irritation properties of pharmaceutical forms elecampane (Inula helenium) (herbal infusion, tincture, liquid and dry extracts) on skin integuments and conjunctiva of experimental animals (Guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus), rabbits (Oryctolagus), sheep and piglets). Research results showed that the preparative forms of elecampane had poorly expressed irritating properties after application on the skin of animals, as well as weak irritating action with the exception of the native forms of tincture and liquid extract of eye conjunctiva, that proved their total low toxic effect. Topical-product-induced irritation effect of herbal infusion (1:10), tincture and liquid extract in constitution (40 % concentration) and suspension of dry extract in strength of 10%, 15%, and 20% after the single application on skin could be referred to the I class – absence of irritating action. Topical-product-induced irritation effect of herbal infusion and liquid extract in native form (70% concentration) could be referred to the II class – light irritating action. Irritating activity of herbal infusion of eye conjunctiva was evaluated as light, as it was insignificant and short. Irritating action of suspended matter of dry extract in strength of 10%, 15%, and 20% was estimated as a limited one, which disappeared in 24 hours. Irritating action of tincture and liquid extract in constitution (40 % concentration) was evaluated as a high-grade one, which did not disappear in 24 hours. Irritating action of tincture and liquid extract in native form (70 % concentration) was evaluated as a pronounced one, which did not disappear for than 24 hours

Evaluation of a quantity and phagocyte activity of leucocytes, immunoglobulins, T- and B-lymphocytes in blood serum of sheep in the process of stimulation of central nervous system with caffeine sodiobenzoate for the increasing of nonspecific animal resistance was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. Romanov yeld ewes were divided into two groups. Experimental sheep were entered caffeine sodiobenzoate intramuscularly in dose 0,012 g/kg of live weight twice a day with 6 hours interval. Controlled group of sheep were entered physiological salt solution in accordance with the same scheme. Blood samples were taken before preparation entering and after 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours of test beginning. Immunoglobulin concentration in blood serum was estimated by electrophoresis method in polyacrylamide gel. Quantity of T- and B- lymphocytes was estimated by active rosette test. Phagocyte activity of leucocytes was estimated with application of germ culture St. albus. Leucocytes number was accounted in Gorjaev's chamber. Research results showed that under conditions of central nervous system stimulation by caffeine sodiobenzoate there was stated the increasing of nonspecific resistance. It was proved by the increasing of the total number and phagocytic activity of leukocytes, immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA and IgM), T- and B- lymphocytes
