Purpose. To analyse the Ukrainian nomenclature of subtribe Malinae representatives and improve terminological system of the Ukrainian names of a species and a generic levels and names of fruit crops. Results. There is a confusion in the Ukrainian names of plants of Cydonia-Chaenomeles–Pseudocydonia, Mespilus–Eriobotrya, Amelanchier–Cotoneaster. Considering the division of Sorbus s.l. on separate genera Sorbus s.str., Aria, Cormus, Chamaemespilus, Torminalis and availability of numerous hybrids with their involvement, the Ukrainian names for both taxa and nothotaxa of species and generic levels are offered, principles of their choice are also considered. Formation of the Ukrainian generic names on the basis of specific epithets leads to undesirable tautonomy. Aspects of derussification of the Ukrainian professional terminology are discussed. Conclusions. Ukrainian scientific generic and nothogeneric plant names for subtribe Malinae are transliterated/transcripted, borrowed as a calque of latin names or have their own origin, consisting of one or two words. The choice of the best variants of generic and species names from a number of possible ones has a temporal component and largely depends on experts who apply them and basic principles of choice. It is necessary to improve the modern Ukrainian plant nomenclature on a national basis involving the transformed Latin scientific names for introduced species and hybrids.

Цель. Разработать методику проведения испытаний сортов Chaenomeles Lindl. на отличимость, однородность и стабильность.Результаты. Виды рода Chaenomeles ценятся как декоративные, плодовые и лекарственные растения. База данных PLUTO включает декоративные и плодовые сорта хеномелеса, зарегистрированные в Европейском Союзе, Китае, Латвии, Нидерландах, Польше, России, Украине и Японии. Протоколы CPVO или методики UPOV для Chaenomeles не разработаны, но в 2003–2016 гг. в Европейском Союзе, Китае, России и Украине опубликовали четыре национальных методики проведения испытаний сортов хеномелеса на ООС (отличимость, однородность и стабильность). Каждая из них учитывает, соответственно, 46, 31, 51 и 31 признаков. Упомянутые методик различаются в выборе признаков обязательных для наблюдения и в группировании сортов. Признаки, характерные для цветков и плодов являются основными для различения сортов хеномелеса, чему способствует сильная изменчивость за окраской лепестков и плодов, формой и массой плодов и т.д. Существующие методики существенно различаются в описании этих и других признаков. На основе изучения созданной сортовой и видовой коллекции Chaenomeles и собственного селекционного опыта предложены несколько иные подходы к наполнению и совершенствованию методики на ООС.Выводы. Новая методика содержит 42 признака, которые характеризуют морфологию растений, побегов, колючек, листьев, цветков, плодов, семян и фенологию и может быть использована для проведения испытаний всех сортов Chaenomeles на ООС. | Purpose. To develop guidelines for the conduct of tests for distinctness, uniformity and stability of Chaenomeles cultivars.Results. Species of the genus Chaenomeles are valued as ornamental, fruit and medicinal plants. Plant Variety Database (PLUTO) includes ornamental and fruit Japanese quince varieties registered in the European Union, China, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Japan. Neither CPVO protocols nor UPOV guidelines have been developed for Chaenomeles, but in the European Union, China, Russia and Ukraine the four national guidelines for the DUS-testing of Japanese quince varieties were published in 2003–2016. Each of them takes into account, respectively, 46, 31, 51, and 31 traits. They differ in the selection of characteristics which should always be examined for DUS and for grouping of varieties. Both flower and fruit characteristics of are the main for distinguishing Japanese quince varieties, which is facilitated by strong variability in the coloration of petals and fruits, the fruit shape and fruit weight, etc. Existing guidelines differ meaningfully in the description of these and other characteristics. Several different approaches to filling and improving the guidelines have been proposed according to the basis of Chaenomeles cultivars and species collection study and own breeding experience.Conclusions. The new guidelines contain 42 appropriate characteristics of plant morphology, shoots, thorns, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds as well as phenology and can be used for the conduct of tests for distinctness, uniformity and stability of all Chaenomeles cultivars. | Мета. To analyse the modern classification and nomenclature of species of pome fruit crops which varieties are listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine, and improve terminological system of the Ukrainian names of both species and garden crops. Results. Fruit cultivars and most apple clonal rootstocks belong to Malus pumila, and ornamental cultivars belong to Malus gloriosa. The most common scientific name of the cultivated apple, especially among horticulturists, is Malus domestica, although according to the principle of priority the name Malus pumila should have the advantage. As far as Nomenclature Committee for Vascular Plants has rejected the proposal to conserve the name Malus domestica, Malus pumila is correct name for the cultivated apple. The use of synonymic name Malus domestica should be avoided in both scientific and scientific-popular papers for stability of nomenclature. Pear cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine are presented by Pyrus communis, and pear rootstocks – by Cydonia oblonga. Fruit cultivars of the latter belong to separate fruit crop named quince. An apple-quince hybrid was registered as universal clonal rootstock for pome fruit crops. The State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine also contains nonconventional fruit crops such as Chaenomeles and hawthorn that consist of some species and nothospecies. Conclusions. In scientific publications one should stop the use of synonymic name Malus domestica in favour of the correct name for cultivated apple Malus pumila. Apple, pears and Chaenomeles cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine have a complex multispecies origin whereas quince, hawthorn and pear roostock cultivars systematically are monospecies. A universal roootstock of pome fruit crops is Cydolus, or apple-quince, that resulted from interspecies hybridization between quince and apple. Refusal Refuse to use obsolete names of fruit plants species will promote harmonization of professional language.
