Purpose. To reveal the influence of the substrate compositions on technical indicators and the chemical composition of the fruiting bodies of the golden oyster mushroom and poplar mushroom. Methods. The experimental design included cultivation of two species of wood-decay fungi Pleurotus citrinopileatus Singer (strain 2161 IVK) and Cyclocybe aegerita (V.Brig.) Vizzini (strain 2230 IVK) on three variants of substrate composition. Laboratory, laboratory-production methods for evaluating the effectiveness of growing technology, chemical composition of the obtained raw materials, statistical methods of analysis were applied. Results. The structure and composition of substrates affect the technological characteristics of the culture, physical and chemical properties of fruiting bodies. The shortest fruiting cycle of 35.2 ± 1.7 days was determined for C. aegerita under growing conditions on SC1 substrate which formula included «straw, husks, pellet, rapeseed, corn, and CaCO3» in the ratio of 30: 40: 70: 20: 20: 1. The highest yield (170.5 ± 15.2 g per 1 kg of substrate) in the experiment was determined for P. citrinopileatus on the SC1 substrate composed of «straw / pellets  / rapeseed / corn / CaCO3» in the ratio 40: 90: 20: 25: 1. Fruiting bodies of P. citrinopileatus obtained from the SC3 substrate composed of  «pellets / rapeseed / corn / CaCO3» in the ratio 60: 110: 20: 30: 1 had the highest protein content – 22.47 ± 0.19%, and fruiting bodies from the SC1 substrate had the least amount of proteins – 17.38 ± 2.60%. Fruiting bodies of C. aegerita contained more lipids than those of P. citrinopileatus, but the factor of the influence of the substrate composition on the total amount of lipids for some cultivars was insignificant. The largest amount of endopolysaccharides was isolated from the fruiting bodies of C. aegerita (6.81 ± 0.41%) cultivated on SC3 substrate, and the smallest in the SC1 variant (1.38 ± 0.25%). The content of endopolysaccharides in the fruiting bodies of P. citrinopileatus had less variability from 2.54 ± 0.54 (SC3) to 4.72 ± 0.61% (SC1). Conclusion. Substrate compositions significantly affect the biological efficiency of cultivars and the content of nutrients in fruiting bodies of the studied species. The obtained results enable producers of mushrooms to predict the production efficiency and quality of grown mushrooms in accordance with the use of available raw materials. | Мета. Purpose. To establish the optimal row spacing and so­wing rate of sorghum seeds of grain varieties ‘Dniprovskyi 39’ and ‘Vinets’, to substantiate their influence on the growing season and biometric parameters of plants in the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. Field, laboratory, mathematical and statistical. Results. The most intensive growth and development of sorghum plants was observed when sowing seeds with a row spacing of 45 cm and a seeding rate of 200 thousand pieces/ha. In particular, the duration of the growing season under such conditions was the smallest: 108 days for the ‘Dniprovskyi 39’ variety and 106 days for the ‘Vinets’ variety. At the same time, the indicators of field seeds germination, plant height and stem diameter were maximum in the experiment: ‘Dniprovskyi 39’ – 88.7%, 137.3 cm and 1.7 cm, ‘Vinets’ – 86.9%, 121.8 cm and 1.6 cm, respectively. It was found that an increase in seeding rate reduced indicators of productive tillering, leaf area and weight per plant. The most intense tillering of sorghum plants was observed at a seeding rate of 150 and 200 thousand pieces/ha for all the studied variants of the row spacing: on average, up to two panicles well filled with grain per plant, depending on the varietal characte­ristics. At the rate of 250 thousand pieces/ha, tillering of plants in both varieties was somewhat weaker – 1.0–1.1 panicles per plant. The largest indicators of leaf surface area and weight of one plant were with a row spacing of 45 cm: 1528–2320 cm2 and 169.2–185.6 g in the variety ‘Dniprovskyi 39’ and 1476–2180 cm2 and 143.1–162.3 g in the variety ‘Vinets’ depending on planting density. Reduction of row spacing up to 15 cm and its increase up to 70 cm led to a decrease in the main parameters of plant growth and development. Conclusions. Sorghum plants developed better when sown with a row spacing of 45 cm and a seeding rate of 200 thousand pieces/ha, which were recommended for growing crops in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. | Мета. Найінтенсивніше рослини сорго зернового кущились за норми висіву насіння 150 та 200 тис. шт./га за всіх досліджуваних варіантів ширини міжрядь: у середньому до двох добре виповнених зерном волоті на одну рослину залежно від сортових особливостей. За норми 250 тис. шт./га кущіння рослин в обох сортів відбувалося дещо слабкіше – 1,0–1,1 волоті на рослину. Найбільшими показники площі листкової поверхні та маси однієї рослини були за ширини міжрядь 45 см: 1528–2320 см2 і 169,2–185,6 г у сорту ‘Дніпровський 39’ та 1476–2180 см2 і 143,1–162,3 г у сорту ‘Вінець’ залежно від густоти посіву. Зменшення ширини міжрядь до 15 см і збільшення до 70 см призводило до зниження основних параметрів росту й розвитку рослин. Висновки. Найліпше розвивалися рослини сорго зернового за сівби із шириною міжрядь 45 см та нормою висіву 200 тис. шт./га, які й рекомендуються для вирощування культури в умовах Правобережного Лісостепу України.

Purpose. To reveal the influence of harvest timing of biomass of sweet sorghum various varieties and hybrids on their productivity and biofuel yield in the zone of insufficient moisture in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. Biological (conducting field research during 2017–2020) and statistical (descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, correlation and regression analyzes). Results. The lowest yield of sweet sorghum green biomass was during harvesting in early August. In ‘Sylosne 42’ and ‘Favoryt’ varie­ties it was 52.6 and 61.1 t/ha, in ‘Medovyi F1’ and ‘Dovista’ hybrids – 76.3 and 77.7 t/ha, respectively. The postponement of harvesting to mid-September allows increasing the yield of varieties ‘Favoryt’ and ‘Sylosne 42’ to 97.1 and 103.5 t/ha, ‘Dovista’ and ‘Medovyi F1’ hybrids up to 146.6 and 132.9 t/ha, respectively. With even later harvesting periods, an increase in the yield of green biomass was observed only in ‘Dovista’ (up to 152.5 t/ha). In the full ripening phase (BBCH 92–98), sugar sorghum plants accumulate the maximum amount of sugars in the sap. The highest cap sugar content was in plants of ‘Medovyi F1’ hybrid – 17.5%, in the other studied cultivars it varied from 14.8 to 15.5%. The hi­g­hest yield of biofuel and energy per unit area was achieved with gro­wing ‘Dovista’ (up to 815.8 GJ/ha) and ‘Medovyi F1’ (up to 792.0 GJ/ha) hybrids. Despite the high level of plasti­city, ‘Favoryt’ variety is inferior in total energy yield (up to 547.2 GJ/ha). ‘Sylosne 42’ has the lowest plasticity index (b = 0.79); however, it is the most stable variety, which allows to obtain a stable, though not high, energy yield (up to 559.6 GJ/ha). Conclusions. In the zone of insufficient moisture in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine, the hi­ghest productivity indicators and the maximum energy potential can be provided by the hybrids of sweet sorghum ‘Dovista’ and ‘Medovyi F1’ for their harvesting not earlier than the phase of full maturity | Мета. Установити вплив строків збирання біомаси сорго цукрового різних сортів і гібридів на їхню продуктивність та вихід біопалива в зоні недостатнього зволоження Східного Лісостепу України. Методи. Біологічні (проведення польових досліджень упродовж 2017–2020 рр.) та статистичні (описова статистика, дисперсійний, кореляційний і регресійний аналізи). Результати. Найменшою врожайність зеленої біомаси сорго цукрового була за збирання на початку серпня: сорти ‘Силосне 42’ та ‘Фаворит’ – 52,6 і 61,1 т/га, гібриди ‘Медовий F1’ та ‘Довіста’ – 76,3 і 77,7 т/га відповідно. Перенесення строків збирання на середину вересня дало змогу підвищити врожайність сортів ‘Фаворит’ і ‘Силосне 42’ до 97,1 та 103,5 т/га, гібридів ‘Довіста’ і ‘Медовий F1’ – до 146,6 та 132,9 т/га відповідно. За ще пізніших строків збирання збільшення врожайності зеленої біомаси спостерігалося лише в ‘Довіста’ (до 152,5 т/га). У фазі повної стиглості (BBCH 92–98) рослини сорго цукрового накопичують максимальну кількість цукрів у соку. Найвищою цукристість соку була в рослин гібрида ‘Медовий F1’ – 17,5%, у решти досліджуваних культиварів вона змінювалася в межах від 14,8 до 15,5%. Найбільший вихід біопалива та енергії з одиниці площі досягався за вирощування сорго цукрового гібридів ‘Медовий F1’ (до 792,0 ГДж/га) та ‘Довіста’ (до 815,8 ГДж/га). Попри високий рівень пластичності, суттєво поступався їм за цим показником сорт ‘Фаворит’ (до 547,2 ГДж/га). Сорт ‘Силосне 42’ мав найнижчий показник екологічної пластичності (b = 0,79), проте був найстабільнішим, що забезпечувало сталий вихід енергії з одиниці площі. Висновки. У зоні недостатнього зволоження Східного Лісостепу України найвищі показники продуктивності та максимальний енергетичний потенціал забезпечують гібриди сорго цукрового ‘Довіста’ та ‘Медовий F1’ за їх збирання не раніше фази повної стиглості

Purpose. Determine amino acid content, biological and nutritional value of grain of different winter pea varieties and products of its processing. Methods. The amino acid share was determined by ion exchange liquid chromatography. Mathematical processing of the obtained data was performed by variance analysis of a one-factor field experiment. Amino acid and integral scores were determined by calculation. Results. Winter pea grain of ‘NS Moroz’, ‘Baltrap’ and ‘Enduro’ varieties had high amino acid content. In the composition of essential amino acids, lysine and leucine share was the highest – 1.53–1.77%, and methionine share was the lowest – 0.25–0.28% depending on winter pea variety. The main amino acid of winter pea grain was glutamic acid, the share of which was 3.25–3.30% of the share of all amino acids. The share of aspartic acid was 2.30–2.37% depending on the variety. In the composition of essential amino acids, cystine share was the lowest – 0.31–0.37% depending on the variety. The share of essential amino acids in winter pea was 40–41% of their total. The share of tryptophan decreased by 30–43%, isoleucine – by 20–24%, methionine – by 8–29%, phenylalanine, lysine, leucine – by 8–12%, valine share – by 5–9%, threonine one – by 1–5%. In the composition of essential amino acids, cystine share decreased most – by 58–73%, histidine – by 36–43%, glycine – by 42–45% compared to grain. Alanine share decreased by 19–25%, glutamic acid – by 12–15%, tyrosine – by 8–18%, aspartic acid – by 9–12%. The share of serine and arginine decreased least of all – by 3–8%. However, the amount of essential amino acids decreased by only 15–17% depending on the varietal cha­racteristics. It was found that the amino acid score of winter pea grain and products of its processing was non-deficient. Calculations showed that 100 g of winter pea grain satisfied the biological need of adults with isoleucine by 55–58%, valine – 51–42%, tryptophan – 41–50%, lysine – 37–40%, threonine – 39–40%, leucine – 36–38%. The highest daily requirement was provided by 100 g of grain processing products with arginine and glutamic acid – by 20–26%, depending on winter pea variety. For the rest of the essential amino acids, this figure was 6–16% for flour and 2–15% for cereals due to a decrease in the amino acid content in these products. Conclusions. The share of amino acids, biological and nutritional value of grain of different winter pea varieties and products of its processing, such as cereals and flour were determined. In the amino acid composition, the share of essential amino acids predominated, but 100 g of grain and products of its processing most meet the need for essential amino acids. The share of amino acids is reduced in the products of winter pea processing, especially in cereals. The amino acid score of winter pea grain of ‘NS Moroz’, ‘Baltrap’ and ‘Enduro’ varieties and products of its processing was balanced. | Мета. У складі незамінних амінокислот частка цистину була найнижчою – 0,31–0,37% залежно від сорту. Частка есенційних амінокислот зерна гороху озимого становила 40–41% від їхньої суми. Частка триптофану порівняно із зерном знижувалась на 30–43%, ізолейцину – на 20–24%, метіоніну – на 8–29%, фенілаланіну, лізину, лейцину – на 8–12%, валіну – на 5–9%, треоніну – на 1–5%. У складі незамінних амінокислот щодо зерна найбільше знижувалась частка цистину – на 58–73%, гістидину – на 36–43%, гліцину – на 42–45%. Частка аланіну щодо зерна знижувалась на 19–25%, глютамінової кислоти – на 12–15%, тирозину – на 8–18%, аспарагінової кислоти – на 9–12%. Найменше знижувалась частка серину та аргініну – на 3–8%. Проте сума незамінних амінокислот знижувалась лише на 15–17% залежно від сортових особливостей. Встановлено, що амінокислотний скор зерна гороху озимого та продуктів його перероблення був бездефіцитним. Розрахунки показали, що 100 г зерна гороху озимого задовольняють біологічну потребу дорослої людини в ізолейцині – на 55–58%, валіні – на 51–42%, триптофані – на 41–50%, лізині – на 37–40%, треоніні – на 39–40%, лейцині – на 36–38%. Найбільшу добову потребу забезпечувало 100 г продуктів перероблення зерна аргініном і глютаміновою кислотою – на 20–26% залежно від сорту гороху озимого. Для решти незамінних амінокислот цей показник був на рівні 6–16% у борошні та 2–15% у крупі завдяки зниженню вмісту амінокислот у цих продуктах. Висновки. Було визначено частку амінокислот, біологічну та харчову цінність зерна різних сортів гороху озимого та продуктів його перероблення, таких як крупа та борошно. В амінокислотному складі частка незамінних амінокислот переважала, проте 100 г зерна та продуктів його перероблення найбільше задовольняють потребу в незамінних амінокислотах. Частка амінокислот знижувалась у продуктах перероблення зерна гороху озимого, особливо в крупі. Амінокислотний скор зерна гороху озимого сортів ‘НС Мороз’, ‘Баллтрап’ та ‘Ендуро’ і продуктів його перероблення був збалансованим.

Purpose. Comprehensive study, selection, evaluation and systematization of self-pollinated lines of maize (Zea mays L.) obtained on the basis of material of diffe­rent genetic structure from endosperm of flint and dent maize were implemented according to the main economically valuable traits and precocity in order to select the best genotypes for selection. Methods. Hybridization, inbreeding were used in the process of creating the initial material; visual method – for phenological observations; laboratory and field – to determine the morphobiological characteristics of self-pollinated lines of maize; measuring and weighing – to account the harvest and determine the metric characteristics of plants; mathematical and statistical – to determine the validity of the results, indicators of trait variability, correlation dependence of traits; analysis of variance; comprehensive assessment of morphobiological and economically valuable traits of self-pollinated maize lines of the most common germplasms. Results. As a result of assessment of self-pollinated lines of the most common germplasms, it was revealed that the highest level of grain yield was obtained under both sowing periods – Iodent germplasm; the minimum grain moisture content – Flint and Mix germplasms; the shortest average duration of the emergence – flowering of 50% of male and female inflorescences stage – Flint germplasm; steadily high va­lues ​​of plant height for germplasm Mix – under the optimal sowing date, and Iodent plasma – under the late sowing date. Steadily high values ​​of the ear insertion height at both sowing dates were obtained for lines based on Iodent germplasm. The number of the most precocious and the best by the economically valuable traits germplasms of self-pollinated lines were identified. Conclusions. The DK239 lines – Flint germplasm, DK7174, DK2285, DK305, DK2613, DK5568 – Iodent germplasm, DK2332 and DK2659 – Mix germplasm were the most precocious and the best by the economically valuable traits. They are promising for the selection of ultra-early hybrids of maize adapted to the conditions of the Steppe of Ukraine. | Мета. У результаті оцінювання самозапилених ліній кукурудзи, створених на базі різних зародкових плазм, установлено, що найвища врожайність зерна за обох строків сівби притаманна лініям від зародкової плазми Iodent; мінімальну збиральну вологість зерна мали лінії зародкових плазм Flint та Mix; найменша середня тривалість періоду сходи–цвітіння (50% чоловічих та жіночих суцвіть за обох строків сівби) властива лініям зародкової плазми Flint; стабільно високі значення показника «висота рослин» за оптимального строку сівби характерні для ліній кукурудзи змішаної зародкової плазми Mix, за пізнього строку – для ліній плазми Iodent. Стабільно високі значення показника «висота прикріплення качана» за обох строків сівби відзначено в ліній, які створені на основі плазми Iodent. Висновки. Лінії ДК239 (плазма Flint), ДК7174, ДК2285, ДК305, ДК2613 і ДК5568 (плазма Iodent), ДК2332 та ДК2659 (плазма Mix) були найбільш скоростиглими та найліпшими за комплексом господарсько-цінних ознак. Вони є перспективними для використання в селекції ультраскоростиглих гібридів кукурудзи, адаптованих до умов Степу України

Лінії ДК239 (плазма Flint), ДК7174, ДК2285, ДК305, ДК2613 і ДК5568 (плазма Iodent), ДК2332 та ДК2659 (плазма Mix) були найбільш скоростиглими та найліпшими за комплексом господарсько-цінних ознак. Purpose. To reveal the breeding and genetic peculiarities for spring barley 1000 kernel weight and to identify genetic sources for breeding under conditions of the central part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. Investigations were carried out at the V. M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat of the NAAS of Ukraine. Spring barley F1 of two comp­lete (6 ´ 6) diallel crossing schemes was investigated. The first scheme included modern both domestic and foreign spring barley malting varieties (‘MIP Tytul’, ‘Avhur’, ‘Datcha’, ‘Quench’, ‘Gladys’, ‘Beatrix’), the second – classic covered awned (‘MIP Myroslav’, ‘Sebastian’), awnless (‘Kozyr’, ‘Vitrazh’) and naked (‘Condor’, ‘CDC Rattan’) varieties. Results. Various types of inheritance of 1000 kernel weight were revealed, with the exception of negative dominance. The proportion of combinations with corresponding values ​​of the degree of phenotypic dominance varied depending on the genotypes involved in the crossing and the years of testing. In both crossing schemes, both in 2019 and in 2020, positive overdominance was found in most combinations. The grea­test number of combinations with the manifestation of hete­rosis under different growing conditions was noted when varieties ‘Gladys’ and ‘MIP Myroslav’ were used in crossing. According to the parameters of genetic variation, it was revealed that the trait was determined mainly by the additive-dominant system. The dominance was aimed at increasing the 1000 kernel weight. Only in the second crossing scheme in 2019 the value of the directional dominance indicator was unreliable. In the loci, incomplete dominance in 2019 and over-dominance in 2020 were revealed. Reliably high effects of the general combining ability in both years were noted for varieties ‘Datcha’, ‘Gladys’, ‘MIP Myroslav’, ‘Kozyr’ and ‘Vitrazh’. Conclusions. The revealed breeding and genetic peculiarities indicate that for the overwhelming majority of created hybrid combinations will be required the final selection in later generations, when the dominant alleles are homozygous. Spring barley awned varieties ‘Gladys’, ‘MIP Myroslav’ and ‘Datcha’, as well as awnless varieties ‘Kozyr’ and ‘Vitrage’ can be used as effective genetic sources for increa­sing the 1000 kernel weight | Мета. Виявити селекційно-генетичні особливості ячменю ярого за масою 1000 зерен та виділити генетичні джерела для селекції в умовах центральної частини Лісостепу України. Методи. Дослідження проводили в Миронівському інституті пшениці імені В. М. Ремесла НААН. Досліджували F1 двох повних (6 ´ 6) діалельних схем схрещувань. Перша схема включала сучасні як вітчизняні, так закордонні сорти ячменю ярого пивоварного напряму (‘МІП Титул’, ‘Авгур’, ‘Datcha’, ‘Quench’, ‘Gladys’, ‘Beatrix’), друга – класичні плівчасті остисті (‘МІП Мирослав’, ‘Sebastian’), безості (‘Козир’, ‘Вітраж’) та голозерні (‘Condor’, ‘CDC Rattan’) сорти. Результати. Виявлено різні типи успадкування маси 1000 зерен, за винятком негативного домінування. Частка комбінацій з відповідними значеннями ступеня фенотипового домінування змінювалась залежно від залучених до схрещувань генотипів та років випробувань. В обох схемах схрещування як у 2019-му, так і у 2020 р. в більшості комбінацій виявлено позитивне наддомінування. Найбільшу кількість комбінацій із проявом гетерозису за різних умов вирощування відзначено в разі залучення до схрещувань сортів ‘Gladys’ і ‘МІП Мирослав’. За параметрами генетичної варіації виявлено, що ознака визначалась переважно адитивно-домінантною системою. Домінування було спрямованим на збільшення маси 1000 зерен. Лише у другій схемі схрещувань у 2019 р. значення показника спрямованості домінування було недостовірним. У локусах виявлено неповне домінування у 2019-му та наддомінування у 2020 р. Достовірно високі ефекти загальної комбінаційної здатності в обидва роки відзначено для сортів ‘Datcha’, ‘Gladys’, ‘МІП Мирослав’, ‘Козир’ і ‘Вітраж’. Висновки. Виявлені селекційно-генетичні особливості вказують, що в переважної більшості створених гібридних комбінацій необхідним буде остаточний добір за масою 1000 зерен у пізніших поколіннях, коли домінантні алелі перейдуть у гомозиготний стан. Як ефективні генетичні джерела для підвищення маси 1000 зерен можуть бути використані остисті сорти ‘Gladys’, ‘МІП Мирослав’ і ‘Datcha’, а також безості – ‘Козир’ і ‘Вітраж’.

Hybrid breeding in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) offers great opportunities to accelerate the rate of genetic improvement and to boost yield stability. A crucial requirement consists of the efficient selection of superior hybrid combinations. We used comprehensive phenotypic and genomic data from a commercial breeding program with the goal of examining the potential to predict the hybrid performances. The phenotypic data were comprised of replicated grain yield trials for 385 two‐way and 408 three‐way hybrids evaluated in up to 47 environments. The parental lines were genotyped using a 3k single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array based on an Illumina Infinium assay. We implemented ridge regression best linear unbiased prediction modeling for additive and dominance effects and evaluated the prediction ability using five‐fold cross validations. The prediction ability of hybrid performances based on general combining ability (GCA) effects was moderate, amounting to 0.56 and 0.48 for two‐ and three‐way hybrids, respectively. The potential of GCA‐based hybrid prediction requires that both parental components have been evaluated in a hybrid background. This is not necessary for genomic prediction for which we also observed moderate cross‐validated prediction abilities of 0.51 and 0.58 for two‐ and three‐way hybrids, respectively. This exemplifies the potential of genomic prediction in hybrid barley. Interestingly, prediction ability using the two‐way hybrids as training population and the three‐way hybrids as test population or vice versa was low, presumably, because of the different genetic makeup of the parental source populations. Consequently, further research is needed to optimize genomic prediction approaches combining different source populations in barley.

A total of 310 Barley accessions collected from ICARDA, Lebanon and grown in Indian condition at ICARDA-IRP (India Research Platform), Amlaha, (M.P.) were analyzed for morphological and genetic variability using nine agro-morphological traits i.e. Plant height (cm), number oftillers per plant, daysto heading, number of ear headsper pant, length ofear (cm), number of spikelets per earhead, number of grains per earhead, yield per plant (g), and 1000-grain weight (g). The highest coefficient of variation as a result of highest diversity among the genotypes were found for grains per earhead (37.5%), spikelets per earhead (37.5%), yield per plant (35.3%), tillers per plant (31.3%) and earhead per plant (31.2%). However, ear length (16.9%), days to heading (15.4%), 1000-grain weight (13.5%) and plant height (11.2%) have conributued less to diversity with lower cofficient of variation. In cluster analysis, all the characters were used to construct a distance matrix using the Euclidian coefficient, and used to generate dendrogram showing similarity among all the genotypes, distance coefficient ranged between 0 and 200 which reveal the genetic diversity among genotypes. These exotic accessions evaluated can be further used for primary or secondary introduction in Indian breeding program.

Background. Naked barley is a promising food crop. To enhance its production, active breeding is required to create productive varieties. The purpose of this study was to test the STS-marker for the Nud1 gene controlling the hulled phenotype, and use it for the production of naked barley hybrids. Materials and methods. Genotyping of 112 F2 hybrids obtained by crossing the naked black variety ‘Jet’ and the hulled white variety ‘Elf’ was carried out using wF2 and kR1, or tR2 primers in the regular PCR mode to amplify the recessive or dominant alleles of the Nud1 gene, respectively, and also in the multiplex PCR mode, which allows simultaneous amplification of both dominant and recessive alleles of the Nud1 gene. The genotyping data were compared with those on phenotypes of hybrids. Results and discussion. The possibility of using multiplex PCR with a set of primers wF2, kR1, and tR2 for identifying dominant and recessive alleles of the Nud1 gene in hybrid material has been demonstrated. However, while the observed number of hybrids homozygous for the recessive allele nud1 almost completely corresponded to their expected number, the clear predominance of homozygotes for the dominant allele Nud1 and the lack of heterozygotes compared to the expected number of hybrids of these groups indicates erroneous identification of some heterozygotes as dominant homozygotes, which must be taken into account during selection of hulled barleys by genotyping. Conclusions. The STS-marker amplified by primers wF2, kR1, and tR2, can be used to select recessive homozygotes nud1nud1 from hybrid populations, however, additional analysis is required for a more reliable identification of heterozygotes and homozygotes for the dominant allele of the Nud1 gene.

Виявити особливості успадкування кількості зерен у колосі, схрещуючи різні за походженням, напрямами використання і різновидностями сорти ячменю ярого, та виокремити ефективні генетичні джерела для поліпшення цієї ознаки. Методи. Дослідження проводили в Миронівському інституті пшениці імені В. М. Ремесла НААН у 2019 і 2020 рр. В F1 ячменю ярого двох діалельних схем схрещування за кількістю зерен у колосі визначили ступінь фенотипового домінування, параметри генетичної варіації та комбінаційну здатність. Результати. За показником ступеня фенотипового домінування виявлено всі можливі типи успадкування кількості зерен у колосі. У низки комбінацій схрещування встановлено зміну типу успадкування залежно від умов року. Найбільшу кількість комбінацій із наддомінуванням в обох роках відмічено у комбінаціях з плівчастим остистим сортом ‘Авгур’ та безостим сортом ‘Козир’. За параметрами генетичної варіації у схрещуваннях пивоварних сортів (плівчастих остистих) виявлено відповідність адитивно-домінантній моделі, наддомінування і домінування у локусах, а також односпрямованість домінування на збільшення ознаки, зумовлене домінантними ефектами. У схрещуваннях сортів різних ботанічних різновидностей виявлено зміну дії генів у різні роки. А саме: адитивно-домінантної системи – комплементарним епістазом, неповного домінування – наддомінуванням, односпрямованості домінування на збільшення ознаки – різноспрямованістю. Виділено генетичні джерела підвищеної загальної комбінаційної здатності, зокрема плівчасті остисті сорти пивоварного напряму ‘Quench’ і ‘Авгур’, голозерний та безостий сорти ‘CDC Rattan’ і ‘Козир’ відповідно. На основі констант специфічної комбінаційної здатності визначено найбільш перспективні комбінації для подальшої селекційної роботи. Висновки. Виявлені особливості успадкування кількості зерен у колосі дають змогу оптимально комбінувати батьківські компоненти схрещувань і здійснювати цілеспрямований добір на збільшення ознаки у процесі створення ботанічних різновидностей сортів ячменю ярого різних напрямів використання.

Eighteen hybrids generated from crossing six lines with three testers were studied along with their parents for combining ability and gene action involved in the expression of characters in barley to identify suitable parents and desirable hybrid combinations. Observations were recorded for days to ear emergence, days to maturity, the number of productive tillers per plant, ear length (cm.), grains per spike, biological yield per plant (g.), harvest index (%), 1000-grain weight and grain yield per plant (g.). The mean squares for General Combining Ability (GCA) and Specific Combining Ability (SCA) effects were found highly significant for all the traits studied. Among the parents, tester NDB-1173 and lines RD-2909, RD-2899 and RD-2768 were good general combiners for grain yield and its component traits. On the basis of SCA effects, RD-2909 x NDB-943, NDB-1618 x NDB-1173, RD-2768 x NDB-3, HUB-240 x NDB-1173 and RD-2899 x NDB-943 for grain yield were observed as most promising crosses.

Голозерный ячмень является перспективной продовольственной культурой. Для увеличения его производства необходима активная селекционная работа по созданию высокопродуктивных сортов. Целью представленной работы является апробация STS-маркера к гену Nud1, контролирующему пленчатость, для отбора голозерных гибридов ячменя. Материалы и методы. Генотипирование 112 гибридов популяции F2, полученной с помощью скрещивания голозерного черноколосого сорта ‘Jet’ и пленчатого белоколосого сорта ‘Эльф’, проводили с помощью праймеров wF2 и kR1, либо tR2, в режиме обычной ПЦР, которая позволила амплифицировать фрагменты рецессивного, либо доминантного аллелей гена Nud1, соответственно, а также в режиме мультиплексной ПЦР, позволяющей одновременно амплифицировать фрагменты и доминантного, и рецессивного аллелей гена Nud1. Данные генотипирования сопоставляли с фенотипами гибридов. Результаты и обсуждение. Показана возможность использования мультиплексной ПЦР с набором праймеров wF2, kR1, tR2 для выявления доминантных и рецессивных аллелей гена Nud1 в гибридном материале. Однако, если наблюдаемая частота гибридов гомозиготных по рецессивному аллелю nud1 почти полностью соответствовала их ожидаемой частоте при моногенном типе наследования, то явное преобладание гомозигот по доминантному аллелю Nud1 и недостаток гетерозигот по сравнению с ожидаемыми частотами гибридов этих групп указывает на ошибочную идентификацию части гетерозигот как доминантных гомозигот, что нужно учитывать при отборе пленчатых форм с помощью генотипирования. Заключение. STS-маркер, амплифицируемый с помощью праймеров wF2, kR1, tR2, возможно использовать для отбора рецесcивных гомозигот nud1nud1 из гибридных популяций, однако для более надежной идентификации гетерозигот и гомозигот по доминантному аллелю гена Nud1 необходим дополнительный анализ.

The paper summarizes the experimental data from field and laboratory experiments on the study of the collection material of hull-less barley from ICARDA (Hordeum vulgare L.) on saline soils of the Kyzylorda region. The influence of the type of ripening of the variety and weather conditions of vegetation on the formation and variability of the grain yield of spring hull-less barley is shown. Traits less affected by external factors, such as plant height, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, and number of productive spikes per 1 m2, are determined. It has been established that during the selection, stabilization on such traits occurs in early generations, which increases the efficiency of selection of adaptive varieties. At the present stage, using in hybridization the best hull-less forms ICNBF8-611/Aths, DeirAlla106/Strain205//Rhn-03/3/BF891M-582, Atahualpa/4/Avt/Attiki//Aths/3/Giza121/Pue, Atahualpa/4/Harrington/3/WI2291/Roho//WI2269, and HIGO/LINO with local recognized varieties, 20 hybrid populations have been obtained, and 150 lines selected from them, identified that donors of valuable traits are of particular interest for creating productive cereal varieties.

KEY MESSAGE: Evaluation of breeding progress for spring barley varieties in Germany showed that both grain yield and malting quality were considerably improved during the last 33 years, and that genetic effects of protein concentration and malting traits were not associated. Based on historical data, this study aimed to investigate yield potential and malting quality of 187 varieties tested and released in German registration trials to evaluate the value for cultivation and use (VCU) during 1983–2015, and to quantify the environmental variability and the association among traits. We used mixed linear models with multiple linear regression terms to dissect genetic and non-genetic trend components. Grain yield increased by 43% (23.4 dt ha⁻¹) in VCU trials and 35% (14.0 dt ha⁻¹) on-farm relative to 1983. All yield components contributed significantly. Malting quality was also considerably improved by 2.3% for extract content up to 25.1% for friability, relative to 1983, nearly completely due to new varieties. Total variability of individual traits was very different between traits (2.4–24.4% relative to 1983). The relative influence of genotypes on total variation was low for grain yield and its components, whereas it was considerably larger for other traits. We found remarkable differences between phenotypic and genetic correlation coefficients for grain yield and protein concentration with malting traits. The observed positive phenotypic relation between grain yield and malting quality can be attributed to a shift of selection and environmental effects, but genetic correlations showed a negative association. Genetic effects of protein concentration and malting quality were not correlated indicating that both were not genetically linked. Considerable yield progress and improvement of malting quality were achieved despite of their weak to moderate negative genetic dependence.

Мета. Виявити особливості рівня прояву і варіабельність кількості зерен у колосі ячменю ярого та виділити нові генетичні джерела за поєднанням підвищеного та стабільного рівня прояву ознаки для селекції в умовах центральної частини Лісостепу України. Методи. Дослідження проведено у 2018–2020 рр. в умовах Миронівського інституту пшениці імені В. М. Ремесла НААН. Дослідили 96 колекційних зразків різних підвидів та груп різновидностей ячменю ярого походженням з 15 країн світу. Застосовували низку статистичних параметрів та графічних моделей. Результати. Дисперсійним аналізом AMMI моделі виявлено достовірно високі частки внеску у загальній фенотиповій варіації усіх її складових: умов року (33,8–40,2%), генотипу (35,2–48,9%) і взаємодії генотип–середовище (17,3–29,3%). За показниками гомеостатичності (Homi) і селекційної цінності (Sci) та візуалізаціями GGE biplot диференційовано зразки відповідно до рівня прояву і варіабельності ознаки та виокремлено нові генетичні джерела для селекції. Коефіцієнт фенотипової варіації варіював від низького у дворядних плівчастих зразків (PCV = 9,60%) до наближеного до високого у голозерних (PCV = 18,9%). Високе значення коефіцієнту генотипової варіації виявлено у голозерних (GCV = 10,95%) та шестирядних зразків (GCV = 13,28%). Коефіцієнт успадковуваності ознаки мав значення від високого (H2 = 79,4%) у дворядних зразків до наближеного до низького (H2 = 33,7%) у шестирядних. Очікуване генетичне поліпшення становило від середнього у багаторядних зразків (GAM = 13,10%) до високого у голозерних (GAM = 23,51%). Висновки. Виділено колекційні зразки які поєднують підвищену озерненість та її відносну стабільність: дворядні плівчасті – ‘Тівер’ (UKR), ‘Almonte’ (CAN), ‘Despina’ (DEU), ‘Cымбат’ (KAZ), ‘Смарагд’ (UKR), ‘Новатор’ (UKR); дворядні голозерні – ‘CDC Candle’ (CAN) і ‘Millhouse’ (CAN), багаторядні плівчасті – ‘AC Westech’ (CAN) і ‘AC Alma’ (CAN). Перспективою подальших досліджень є залучення виділених зразків для створення нового вихідного матеріалу та встановлення особливостей успадкування кількості зерен у колосі, а також виявлення взаємозв’язків цієї ознаки з іншими структурними елементами врожайності.

A collection of 379 Hordeum vulgare cultivars, comprising all combinations of spring and winter growth habits with two and six row ear type, was screened by genome wide association analysis to discover alleles controlling traits related to grain yield. Genotypes were obtained at 6,810 segregating gene-based single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) loci and corresponding field trial data were obtained for eight traits related to grain yield at four European sites in three countries over two growth years. The combined data were analyzed and statistically significant associations between the traits and regions of the barley genomes were obtained. Combining this information with the high resolution gene map for barley allowed the identification of candidate genes underlying all scored traits and superposition of this information with the known genomics of grain trait genes in rice resulted in the assignation of 13 putative barley genes controlling grain traits in European cultivated barley. Several of these genes are associated with grain traits in both winter and spring barley.

The 21 hybrids were generated by applying LxT mating design using seven lines and three testers and were subjected to study combining ability for nine yield traits of barley. ANOVA was significant for GCA and SCA effect, indicating parents and crosses differed significantly with regard to general and specific combining ability, respectively. The GCA effect recorded for most of the traits were low and non-significant. However, two lines EC-667509 and EC-667365; one tester, NDB3 recorded the high GCA effect in three traits eachviz., productive tillers per plant, the number of grains per spike and 1000-grain weight; grain yield per plant, harvest index and 1000-grain weight; days to 75% maturity, the number of grains per spike and harvest index, respectively. Non-significant SCA effect for all the traits was observed in 12 out of 21 crosses. In respect to the SCA effect, cross EC-667498 x Azad performed better than the remaining cross combinations, as it recorded the high SCA effect in desirable direction in five out of nine traits.

Genebanks hold comprehensive collections of cultivars, landraces and crop wild relatives of all major food crops, but their detailed characterization has so far been limited to sparse core sets. The analysis of genome-wide genotyping-by-sequencing data for almost all barley accessions of the German ex situ genebank provides insights into the global population structure of domesticated barley and points out redundancies and coverage gaps in one of the world’s major genebanks. Our large sample size and dense marker data afford great power for genome-wide association scans. We detect known and novel loci underlying morphological traits differentiating barley genepools, find evidence for convergent selection for barbless awns in barley and rice and show that a major-effect resistance locus conferring resistance to bymovirus infection has been favored by traditional farmers. This study outlines future directions for genomics-assisted genebank management and the utilization of germplasm collections for linking natural variation to human selection during crop evolution.

Purpose. To reveal the peculiarities of inheritance of kernel number per spike in crosses of spring barley cultivars of different origin, purpose of use and botanical varieties, as well as to distinguish effective genetic sources for impro­ving the trait.Methods. The study was carried out at the M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat of National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine in 2019 and 2020. In F1 of spring barley in two diallel crossing schemes the degree of phenotypic dominance, parameters of genetic variation, and combining ability for kernel number per spike were determined. Results. According to the indicator of the degree of phenotypic dominance, all possible types of inheritance of kernel number per spike were identified. In a number of crossing compositions, a change in the type of inheritance depending on the conditions of the year was revealed. Most combinations with overdominance in both years were noted in crossings of the covered awned cultivar ‘Avgur’, as well as the covered awnless cultivar ‘Kozyr’. According to the parameters of genetic variation in crosses of malting varieties (covered awned), correspondence of the additive-dominant model, overdominance and dominance in loci, as well as unidirectional dominance to increasing of the trait caused by dominant effects were revealed. When crossing cultivars of different varieties, a change in gene action in different years was found. In particular, additive-dominant system changed to complementary epistasis, incomplete dominance to overdominance, unidirectional dominance to increa­sing of the trait to multidirectional dominance. The genetic sources of increased general combining ability were identified, as follows: covered awned malting cultivars ‘Quench’ and ‘Avgur’, the naked awned cultivar ‘CDC Rattan’, as well as the covered awnless cultivar ‘Kozyr’. Based on the constants of specific combining ability, the most promising crossing combinations for further breeding efforts were determined.Conclusions. The identified peculiarities of the inheritance of kernel number per spike make it possible to optimally combine parental components of crossings and carry out directional selection to increase the trait when developing spring barley cultivars for different use and different botanical varieties. | Мета. Виявити особливості успадкування кількості зерен у колосі, схрещуючи різні за походженням, напрямами використання і різновидностями сорти ячменю ярого, та виокремити ефективні генетичні джерела для поліпшення цієї ознаки.Методи. Дослідження проводили в Миронівському інституті пшениці імені В. М. Ремесла НААН у 2019 і 2020 рр. В F1 ячменю ярого двох діалельних схем схрещування за кількістю зерен у колосі визначили ступінь фенотипового домінування, параметри генетичної варіації та комбінаційну здатність.Результати. За показником ступеня фенотипового домінування виявлено всі можливі типи успадкування кількості зерен у колосі. У низки комбінацій схрещування встановлено зміну типу успадкування залежно від умов року. Найбільшу кількість комбінацій із наддомінуванням в обох роках відмічено у комбінаціях з плівчастим остистим сортом ‘Авгур’ та безостим сортом ‘Козир’. За параметрами генетичної варіації у схрещуваннях пивоварних сортів (плівчастих остистих) виявлено відповідність адитивно-домінантній моделі, наддомінування і домінування у локусах, а також односпрямованість домінування на збільшення ознаки, зумовлене домінантними ефектами. У схрещуваннях сортів різних ботанічних різновидностей виявлено зміну дії генів у різні роки. А саме: адитивно-домінантної системи – комплементарним епістазом, неповного домінування – наддомінуванням, односпрямованості домінування на збільшення ознаки – різноспрямованістю. Виділено генетичні джерела підвищеної загальної комбінаційної здатності, зокрема плівчасті остисті сорти пивоварного напряму ‘Quench’ і ‘Авгур’, голозерний та безостий сорти ‘CDC Rattan’ і ‘Козир’ відповідно. На основі констант специфічної комбінаційної здатності визначено найбільш перспективні комбінації для подальшої селекційної роботи.Висновки. Виявлені особливості успадкування кількості зерен у колосі дають змогу оптимально комбінувати батьківські компоненти схрещувань і здійснювати цілеспрямований добір на збільшення ознаки у процесі створення ботанічних різновидностей сортів ячменю ярого різних напрямів використання.

Five two-row winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars divergent in spike traits were crossed in all possible combinations excluding reciprocals to produce 10 F1 and F2 hybrids for analysis of combining abilities. The analysis of variance of combining abilities showed significant differences for GCA and SCA in F1 hybrids and F2 generation, suggesting additive and non-additive gene action. The GCA/SCA ratio in F1 and F2 indicated the prevalence of the additive component of genetic variance for spike length, grain weight per spike and spike harvest index. By contrast, the SCA variance for grain weight per spike was higher than the GCA variance, indicating the dominance of non-additive gene action. Good GCAs were found in parents having high values for spike length (Djerdap, NS-293), grain number per spike (Vada, Jagodinac), grain weight per spike (Vada, NS-293) and spike harvest index (Djerdap, Jagodinac). None of the parents had good GCA for all traits, suggesting a potential increase in combining abilities for spike traits. The best SCA were obtained mostly from crosses between parents having high x low, high x high or average x low GCA values. Parents having high GCA values may be used to produce improved lines in hybridisation programmes. Combinations with high SCA values may yield good segregating lines in further selection programmes.

Hybrid breeding in barley ( L.) offers great opportunities to accelerate the rate of genetic improvement and to boost yield stability. A crucial requirement consists of the efficient selection of superior hybrid combinations. We used comprehensive phenotypic and genomic data from a commercial breeding program with the goal of examining the potential to predict the hybrid performances. The phenotypic data were comprised of replicated grain yield trials for 385 two-way and 408 three-way hybrids evaluated in up to 47 environments. The parental lines were genotyped using a 3k single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array based on an Illumina Infinium assay. We implemented ridge regression best linear unbiased prediction modeling for additive and dominance effects and evaluated the prediction ability using five-fold cross validations. The prediction ability of hybrid performances based on general combining ability (GCA) effects was moderate, amounting to 0.56 and 0.48 for two- and three-way hybrids, respectively. The potential of GCA-based hybrid prediction requires that both parental components have been evaluated in a hybrid background. This is not necessary for genomic prediction for which we also observed moderate cross-validated prediction abilities of 0.51 and 0.58 for two- and three-way hybrids, respectively. This exemplifies the potential of genomic prediction in hybrid barley. Interestingly, prediction ability using the two-way hybrids as training population and the three-way hybrids as test population or vice versa was low, presumably, because of the different genetic makeup of the parental source populations. Consequently, further research is needed to optimize genomic prediction approaches combining different source populations in barley.

An experimental trial was carried out during two successive crop years, (2015/2016 and 2016/2017). The study focused on an F1 generation of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), composed of twenty hybrids, from a complete diallel cross between autochthones and introduced cultivars.The aim is to bring together in one combination the maximum of favorable genes existing in local and introduced genotypes. The evaluation of the genetic determinism of parental lines and their descendants, through the measurement of six quantitative variables, is ensured thanks to a detailed genetic analysis according to the model of Griffing (1956) and confirmed by the graphic model of Hayman (1954).The results obtained reveal the existence of a great genetic variability between the hybrids and between their parents; additive and non-additive genetic effects are involved in the control of the variables evaluated. The variance ratio of general combining ability (GCA) and the specific combining ability (SCA) is less than one unit which explains the preponderance of the dominant genes, with a super dominance involved in the expression of the length of the spike, the number of grains per spike and the productivity per plant; on the other hand, complete and partial dominance respectively control the expression of the height of the plants and the weight of one thousand grains.

Purpose. Agrobiological assessment of soybean varieties Glycine max var. Shirofumi on a complex of economically valuable traits for introduction in the conditions of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Selection of promising breeding forms based on morpho-biological and physiological-biochemical characteristics. Methods. Field, laboratory, statistical, computatio­nal and analytical. The studies were carried out in the conditions of the educational and production department of Uman National University of Horticulture during 2020–2021, using collection varieties of different ecological and geographical origin (Ukraine, Belarus, Sweden, Japan and Russia). The cultivars were assessed according to the following parameters: plant height, leaf area, net productivity of photosynthesis and indices of individual productivity (weight of beans per plant, number of seeds in a bean, etc.), productivity of green beans and biologically mature seeds and, accordingly, quality indicators of production (dry matter, sugar and protein content). The counts were carried out in the phase of the technical ripeness of the beans. Results. The variability of the “plant height” trait of the studied varieties had an average variation – the coefficient of variation was 22%. The results showed that the standard cultivar ‘Romatnyka’ and the collection cultivars ‘Karikachi’ and ‘Astra’ belong to the semi-determinant type of growth (97–109 cm), cultivar ‘Fiskeby V’, ‘L 380-2-13’, ‘Fiskeby V-E5’, ‘SibNIISOKh 6’, ‘Sac’, ‘Vesta’ belong to the determinant type of growth. According to the number of seeds in the pod, the studied varieties were clearly divided into two groups: with two-seeded beans (varieties ‘Karikachi’, ‘Astra’, ‘L 380-2-13’) and three-seeded beans [varieties ‘Romatnyka’ (standard), ‘Fiskeby V’, ‘Vesta’, ‘SibNIISOX 6’, ‘Sac’, ‘Fiskeby V-E5’]. The maximum yield of edamame beans was produced by varieties ‘L 380-2-13’ (17.3 t/ha), ‘Vesta’ (18.8 t/ha), ‘Sac’ (19.6 t/ha), ‘Fiskeby V’ (21.4 t/ha), ‘Fiskeby V-E5’ (22.4 t/ha). A significant differentiation of soybean varieties in the biochemical composition of immature beans was revealed. The dry matter content was 22.70–31.70%. The share of protein in edamame green beans was 28.2–38.6%, in biologically mature seeds its share increased to 36.1–42.8%. Among soluble sugars, the highest concentration was noted for sucrose – 7.70–9.38 mg/100 g in dry seeds, what in average amounted to 81.6–86.2% of all sugars. The presented results provide a comprehensive assessment of breeding work on soybean varieties with a low content of oligosaccharides. Conclusions. Evaluation of collection varieties of vegetable soybeans by the variability of morphological traits and productivity made it possible to distinguish ‘Sac’ variety by a complex of valuable traits for creation of new varieties of vegetable soybeans adapted to the conditions of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. | Мета. Результати вказали, що сорт-стандарт ‘Романтика’ та колекційні сорти ‘Karikachi’ та ‘Астра’ відносяться до напівдетермінантного типу росту (97–109 см), сорти ‘Fiskeby V’, ‘Л 380-2-13’, ‘Fiskeby V-E5’, ‘СибНИИСОХ 6’, ‘Sac’, ‘Веста’ належать до детермінантного типу росту. За кількістю насінин у стручку досліджувані сорти чітко розділилися на дві групи: з двонасінними бобами (сорти ‘Karikachi’, ‘Астра’, ‘Л 380-2-13’) та тринасінними бобами (сорти ‘Романтика’ (St), ‘Fiskeby V’, ‘Веста’, ‘СибНИИСОХ 6’, ‘Sac’, ‘Fiskeby V-E5’). Наведені результати забезпечують комплексну оцінку для селекційної роботи над сортами сої овочевої з низьким вмістом олігосахаридів. Висновки. Оцінювання колекційних сортів сої овочевого напряму використання за варіабельністю морфологічних ознак та продуктивністю дозволило виділити серед інтродукованих колекційних сортів за комплексом цінних ознак для використання у селекційному процесі сорт ‘Sac’ для створення нових сортів сої овочевого напряму, адаптованих до умов Лісостепу України.

Purpose. To define of phenological and morphological features of A. donax var. versicolor growth during the introduction in the M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NBG). Methods. The object of research was the plants of A. donax var. versicolor in the collection of ornamental grasses of the department of flower and ornamental plants of NBG. The plants were grown on a sunny experimental area during 2014–2020. Since under NBG conditions, A. donax var. versicolor did not enter the flowering phase, the beginning of the phases of spring regrowth, leaf unfolding, and the end of the growing season were recorded. Morphometric parameters and shoot-forming ability were investigated for 3–5 years of cultivation. Results. The beginning and duration of the phases of shoot spring regrowth and the unfolding of leaves of A. donax var. versicolor as well as their dependence on the sum of effective temperatures was established. Thus, spring regrowth begins with renewal buds on May 11 ± 5 days at the effective temperature sums of 226.6 ± 19.7 °С. The phase of leaf development in plants occurred on May 20 ± 7 days. The effective temperature sum at the beginning of this phase was 309.45 ± 11.66 °C. The productivity of shoot formation (1.6 ± 0.3 shoot per plant) under the conditions of introduction was determined. Conclusions. A. donax var. versicolor plants did not have a full cycle of seasonal development in the conditions of the NBG. Plants formed vegetative monocyclic shoots 240–260 cm tall. The duration of their vegetation was 182–189 days. The optimal period for the growth of the ground mass of plants fell on July-August. During this period, the leaves were quickly formed, the number of which was 28.8 ± 6.68 on the shoot. The correlation between the rate of accumulation of effective temperatures and the rate of regrowth of plant shoots was recorded. | Мета. Виявити фенологічні та морфологічні особливості росту й розвитку арундо очеретяного [Arundo donax var. versi­color (Mill.) Stokes] в умовах Національного ботанічного саду імені М. М. Гришка НАН України (НБС). Методи. Об’єктом досліджень слугували рослини A. donax var. versicolor з колекції декоративних злаків відділу квітниково-декоративних рослин НБС. Рослини вирощували на сонячній відкритій експериментальній ділянці протягом 2014–2020 рр. Оскільки в умовах НБС рослини A. donax var. versicolor не вступали у фазу цвітіння, фіксували початок фаз весняного відростання, розгортання листків та закінчення вегетації. Морфометричні показники та пагоноутворювальну здатність досліджували на 3–5-й роки вирощування. Результати. Установлено строки настання та проходження фаз весняного відростання пагонів і початку розгортання листків рослин A. donax var. versicolor, а також їх залежність від суми ефективних температур за інтродукції в НБС. Зокрема, весняне відростання розпочинається з бруньок поновлення 11 травня ± 5 діб за суми ефективних температур 226,6 ± 19,7 °С. Фаза розгортання листків у рослин наставала 20 травня ± 7 діб. Сума ефективних температур на початку цієї фази становила 309,5 ± 11,7 °С. Визначено пагоноутворювальну здатність арундо в умовах інтродукції – 1,6 ± 0,3 пагона на рослину. Висновки. Рослини A. donax var. versicolor в умовах НБС проходять неповний цикл сезонного розвитку. Вони формують вегетативні екстравагінальні безрозеткові моноциклічні пагони заввишки 240–260 см. Тривалість їхньої вегетації становить 182–189 діб. Належать до пізньої групи вегетації. Оптимальний період для наростання наземної маси рослин припадає на липень–серпень. У цей період відбувається швидке розгортання листків, кількість яких становила 28,8 ± 6,68 шт. на пагін. Зафіксовано залежність між швидкістю накопичення ефективних температур та швидкістю відростання пагонів рослин.

Purpose. To conduct comparative analysis of agro-meteo­rological elements dynamics over the past 35 years and the date and duration of main phenophases of plants of apple varieties to be common for Kyiv Oblast. Methods. Field, comparative, statistical ones, generalization. Results. It was established that Kyiv Oblast has experienced the steady rising of average annual temperature (by 0,6 °С), increase of yearly precipitation (by 20 mm), considerable growth of heat supply level (by 261 °С) in the vegetation period that contributes to the changes in starting date and duration of main phenophases. Conclusions. A significant increase of the sum of active and effective temperatures accumulated for the last 35-year period in Kyiv Oblast at climatological date of occurrence of certain phenophases in the development of apple trees, led to an earlier date of flowering (by 4–5 days). At the same time it did not influence the duration of this phase, but contributed to the reduction of interphase period «the end of flowering–picking maturity of fruits» by 5–12 days. | Цель. Провести сравнительный анализ динамики агрометеоелементов за последние 35 лет и сроков наступления и продолжительности основных фенологических фаз у растений сортов яблони, распространенных на Киевщине. Методы. Полевой, сравнения, обобщения, статистический. Результаты. В Киевской области выявлен устойчивый рост среднегодовой температуры воздуха (на 0,6 °С), увеличение ежегодного количества осадков (на 20 мм), существенное повышение уровня теплообеспечения в вегетационный период (на 261 °С), что способствовало изменениям в сроках наступления и продолжительности основных фенологических фаз. Выводы. Существенный рост суммы эффективных и активных температур, которые накапливаются за последний 35-летний период на Киевщине на климатологическую дату наступления определенных фенологических фаз развития растений яблони, привел к более раннему (на 4–5 дней) началу цветения, не повлиял на продолжительность этой фазы, но способствовал сокращению на 5–12 дней межфазного периода «окончание цветения–съемная зрелость плодов». | Мета. Здійснити порівняльний аналіз динаміки агрометеоелементів за останні 35 років і термінів настання й тривалості основних фенологічних фаз у рослин сортів яблуні, поширених на Київщині. Методи. Польовий, порівняльний, узагальнення, статистичний. Результати. В Київській області виявлено стійке зростання середньорічної температури повітря (на 0,6 °С), збільшення щорічної кількості опадів (на 20 мм), істотне підвищення рівня теплозабезпечення у вегетаційний період (на 261 °С), що зумовило зміну строків настання й тривалості основних фенологічних фаз. Висновки. Істотне зростання суми ефективних і активних температур, які накопичуються за останній 35-річний період на Київщині на кліматологічну дату настання певних фенологічних фаз розвитку рослин яблуні, призвело до більш раннього (на 4–5 днів) початку цвітіння, не вплинуло на тривалість цієї фази, але сприяло скороченню на 5–12 днів міжфазного періоду «закінчення цвітіння–знімальна стиглість плодів».

Purpose. At the same time it did not influence the duration of this phase, but contributed to the reduction of interphase period «the end of flowering–picking maturity of fruits» by 5–12 days.

Purpose. To study the effect of growth regulators EpinTM and Emistym C on yield and quality of strawberry berries of five varieties (Fragaria ananassa (Weston) Duсhesne ex Rozier) with various ripening time. Methods. Field, laboratory, analytical and statistical ones. Results. It was found that there were no impact of growth regulators EpinTM and Emistym C on the speed of phenological phases of strawberry plants development. It was experimentally determined the impact of mentioned substances on the yield of most studied varieties. Laboratory analysis has confirmed the changes in biochemical composition of strawberries. Conclusions. The use of growth regulators EpinTM end Emistym C had a positive effect on fruit yield and quality of studied strawberry varieties. Spraying with these substances increased yields by 14–51% as compared with the control. Content of sugars, dry matter and vitamin C in berries of most of varieties was increasing. At the same time the level of acidity in case of spraying with growth regulators was significantly reducing. | Цель. Изучение влияния регуляторов роста ЭпинTM и Эмистим С на показатели урожайности и качества ягод пяти сортов садовой земляники (Fragaria ananassa (Weston) Duсhesne ex Rozier) разных сроков созревания. Методы. Полевой, лабораторный, аналитический, статис­тический. Результаты. Установлено отсутствие влияния регуляторов роста ЕпинTM и Эмистим С на скорость прохождения фенологических фаз развития растений садовой земляники. Экспериментально определено влияние этих веществ на урожайность большинства изучаемых сортов. Проведенный лабораторный анализ подтверждает изменения в биохимическом составе ягод земляники. Выводы. Применение регуляторов роста ЕпинTM и Эмистим С положительно влияет на урожайность и качество плодов исследованных сортов садовой земляники. Опрыскивание этими веществами способствовало повышению урожайности на 14‒51% по сравнению с контролем. Возрастало содержание сахаров, сухого вещества и витамина С в ягодах большинства сортов. В то же время уровень кислотности существенно снижался. | Мета. Експериментально визначено вплив цих речовин на врожайність більшості досліджуваних сортів. Проведений лабораторний аналіз підтверджує зміни в біохімічному складі ягід суниці. Висновки. Застосування регуляторів росту ЕпінТМ та Емістим С позитивно впливає на врожайність і якість плодів досліджених сортів садової суниці. Обприскування цими речовинами сприяло підвищенню врожайності на 14–51% порівняно з контролем. Зростав вміст цукрів, сухої речовини та вітаміну С у ягодах більшості сортів. Водночас рівень кислотності при обприскуванні препаратами істотно знижувався.
