Paper points the present water quality of the Moraca river (Montenegro, Yugoslavia), from rivermouth of Zeta to Skadarsko jezero lake. Hydrological analysis, level of water pollution are also presented, together with proposed water quality protection measures regarding the Yugoslav federal regulations for surface waters.

The balance of production and respiration processes in water of Crnojevica river (Montenegro, Yugoslavia) has been estimate, over the estimate correlation between significant parameters of water quality (BOD, % saturation of O2, pH). Correlation between these parameters is established. The balances exist in stationary conditions. But, impact of precipitation is disturbing this state. The hydrodynamic conditions at underground flow and wastewater effluent from the town Cetinje area, has been influence for it, too. The data are referring to small and middle water state.

The paper deals with the results of the phytoplankton investigations carried out in the 7 localities along the Yugoslav section of the Tisza river in the period of 13 Februar - 3 March 2000, after accidental pollution with the cyanide and heavy metals. Although certain decrease in the density of the phytoplankton and variation in the qualitative and quantitative composition were recorded, there are no significant differences in comparison with the data before accident. The short-term and possible long-term consequences were recognized, having in mind ability of algae to accumulate pollutants into their cells, and that algae are the first link on food chains. Since the content of pollutants increases with every next member in the chain, it is easy to assume cumulative effect of the all previous members.

In this paper a part of results of the wastewater quality control from the Thermal Power Plant "Kostolac", water from the rivers Danube and Mlava, and groudwaters near by (Serbia, Yugoslavia), is considered. In order to protect environment from the effects of hurtful substances make during working process of Thermal Power Plant "Kostolac" is especially does using solid fuel (coal), the Institute of Public Health of Serbia following an approved program checks upon the quality of groundwaters, water the rivers Danube and Mlava including the wastewater from the Thermal Power Plant "Kostolac", four times a year. The results of our research point out to the hurtful effects of the wastewater from Thermal Power Plant "Kostolac" on the groundwater.

The investigations of the macrozoobenthos of the Crvena Reka river (Serbia, Yugoslavia), left tributary to the Nisava river, were performed during July in 1999. Samples were collected from 15 localities, from the spring of the Crvena Reka river (originating from Toponicka and Vetska rivers) to the lower course, the aim being to investigate the diversity of macrozoobenthos of these running waters which had not been investigated. The community of macroinvertebrates of the Crvena Reka river and the streams, which make it, consists of 54 determined taxa (at species and genus level) from 16 animal groups. Larvae of Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera have the greatest diversity, each having ten determined taxa. The middle course of the Topnicka river (locality T4) is characterized by the greatest diversity (25 taxa), while the springs (due to constant ecological parameters) have poor diversity with two and one determined taxa in locality V1 and V2, respectively. The water quality of the investigated river and streams, which make it, on the basis of the results of saprobiological analysis, is of beta-mezosaprobic quality, i.e. second class of quality in most localities.

Dans le cadre d'une étude confiée par l'Agence de l'Eau Loire-Bretagne, notre équipe s'est intéressée aux effets de molécules herbicides sur les communautés de microalgues naturelles. Nous avons suivi la contamination en pesticides sur divers sites de la rivière Ozanne (Eure et Loir) et évalué la sensibilité des communautés de microalgues prélevées en ces mêmes sites aux deux contaminant principaux, l'atrazine et l'isoproturon. Associé à ces tests, nous avons estimé la structure de ces peuplements, pour valider les principes de la méthode PICT. Les tendances PICT sur périphyton et phytoplancton confirment les analyses de phytosanitaires : Les sites les moins pollués, présentent les communautés algales les plus sensibles à l'atrazine et à l'isoproturon, alors que les deux stations qui ont connu des concentrations très variables mais élevées en triazines et en urées substituées, sont caractérisées par des tolérances plus élevées ; ceci au cours de 5 campagnes de prélèvements. Ces différents résultats montrent le côté intégrateur des communautés algales qui gardent une tolérance acquise malgré des variations importantes en concentrations d'herbicides dans le milieu. Cette étude a montré que le PICT pouvait être appliqué avec succès sur le terrain dans le cadre de rivières contaminées par des pollutions diffuses. | In the frame of a study, which has been undertaken by the Water Agency Loire-Bretagne, our laboratory was interpellated to evaluate the effects of herbicides on natural communities of microalgae. Existing pesticide contamination on different sites of the river Ozanne (Eure and Loir) was monitored and the sensitivity to the two main pollutants, atrazine and isoproturon, of microalgae communities, collected in these sites, was evaluated. In parallel to these tests, we assessed the structure of these populations, in the aim to validate the principles of the PICT-method. The PICT-trends enlightened on both periphyton and phytoplankton, confirmed the analysis of phytosanitary products: the less polluted the site, the more sensitive the communities with regards to atrazine and isoproturon, even though the two sites, which were submitted to highly variable but important concentrations of atrazine and isoproturon are characterized by higher tolerances; and this during 5 campaigns of sampling. These different results show the "integrative" aspect of algae communities, which keep the acquired tolerance, despite important environmental variations of the herbicide concentrations. This study illustrates that the PICT concept could be successfully applied in field in the case of diffused pollution in rivers.
