Bozinovic, M. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). Institut za uredjenje voda) | Savic, R. | Pantelic, S.
In this paper given are basic characteristics and projected functions of the DTD (Danube-Tisza-Danube) Hydrosystem (Yugoslavia), then types, origin and some characteristics of muds - sediments in the hydrosystem channels. It is estimated that in hydrosystem channels gets in averagely about 1.28x10**6 tons of deposits annually, and of that amount in channels are settled about 0.64 x 10**6 cubic meter annually. In 1980-1996 period, it is mudded from channels of the main channel network averagely about 0.19 x 10**6 cubic meter/year, and in 1991-1996 period, usually only about 0.056 x 10**6 cubic meter/year, i.e. about 10 of average amounts which are deposited during the year. Also explained are numerous undesirable influences of muds - sediments on water quality in channels, as well as functions of the DTD (Danube-Tisza-Danube) Hydrosystem in general. At the end, measures for gradually improving conditions that are influenced by muds - sediments are, proposed.
Show more [+] Less [-]Effect of pluviographic parameters and runoff on suspended sediment concentration in small streams
1998
Stefanovic, J. | Bulajic, Z. (Institut za zemljiste, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
Hydrological, psamological and pluviographical measurements in experimental watershed area in the watershed of River Topciderska (Serbia, Yugoslavia) was analyzed. Interrelations between suspended sediment concentration in streams on the one hand and runoff, rainfall, rainfall intensity and index of previous rainfall on the other hand was came from this analyze. Effects of these parameters on suspended sediment concentration was considered for a single rainfall epizode, during the period of torrential waves and as annual value. Specific coefficients (coefficient of annual rainfall structure and coefficient of annual runoff structure) were used in this paper, with help of them effects of torrential waves and intensity rainfall on average annual suspended sediment concentration were considered.

Perisic, M. | Markovic, I. | Janezic, V. (Geoinstitut, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
In previous works numerous specific changes of water composition in the Danube backwater effects Iron Gate 1 reservoir (Yugoslavia), have been initiated. By studies of conditions of generation and composition of sediments, the models denying importance of assumption on sedimentological features of deposited materials foreseen by the project, have been established, as it was confirmed with more details by newer investigations. The new data on the character of sediments coincide in all elements with changes of water composition, which was formerly presented, thus the knowledges of these phenomena being in that way more important. The data on composition of the deposited material, the macro and micro-composition are of great importance to perceive the influence of new sediments to the quality of surface and groundwater, especially of the sources for water supply, then in a long term for the sudden high risk processes corresponding to a chemical time bomb. Data have confirmed validity of the model of intensified deposition of allochthonous material with plankton and influence of this phenomenon to the processes trough the downstream section.
Show more [+] Less [-]Contents of heavy metals in the sediments of fish-ponds and their possible mobility because of changing physical-chemical factors of environment

One of the very dangerous pollution of environment are heavy metals. They are "indestructible" at the condition which leads at the environment. Pollution of heavy metals is irreversible process, except if they are physical removed from the environment which they are polluting. We determinated heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni and Co) in the mud of three fish ponds by means of sequential extraction, because of possible mobility in the mud and its concentration increase in the water. This method was selected because we wanted to determine distribution of heavy metals by substrates, and analyse was worked by the method of AAS. The results are showing that the concentration of all metals is in the extent of "natural phone" of lakes sediment.

Aim of this study was to assess quality of the Danube sediment from the water source "Ratno Ostrvo", which is in the vinicity of the Oil Refinery "Novi Sad" (Serbia, Yugoslavia), after bombardment of the refinery in 1999. In the period March-October 2000, sediment samples were analysed for their oil and oil-derivates contents, i.e. mineral oils contents, by quantitative IR-spectrophotometry, and by qualitative and quantitative GC/MS analyses for their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) contents. Oil pollution was detected in sediment samples.
