The main objective of this study was to investigate possible temporal trends of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and mercury in eggs of herring gulls (Larus argentatus), black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla), common guillemots (Uria aalge) and Atlantic puffins (Fratercula arctica) in Northern Norway. Eggs were collected in 1983, 1993 and 2003. Egg concentrations of POPs (PCB congeners IUPAC numbers: CB-28, 74, 66, 101, 99, 110, 149, 118, 153, 105, 141, 138, 187, 128, 156, 157, 180, 170, 194, 206, HCB, alph-HCH, beta-HCH, gamma-HCH, oxychlordane, trans-chlordane, cis-chlordane, trans-nonachlor, cis-nonachlor, p,p'-DDE, o,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDD, o,p'-DDT and p,p'-DDT) and mercury were quantified. Generally, POP levels decreased between 1983 and 2003 in all species. No significant temporal trend in mercury levels was found between 1983 and 2003.

In the beginning of 2008, on the Montenegrin coast is confirmed finding of new species, what was unknown until now in this part of Adriatic sea. The Sphoeroides cutaneus is tropical species with habitat in warm sea around Japan, China and Indonesia. Probably is one of the Lessepsian migrant. It tooks around 130 years for a fish to come through Suez Canal and Red Sea to Mediterranean, then through Otrant Strait into Adriatic sea. It is possible, also that this apparition has something with the global climate change and temperature rise in saltwater in Mediterranean as well as in Adriatic.

In this paper some results of investigations of physical, chemical and biological parameters were presented from the parts of Montenegrin coastal sea exposed to the impact of the open waters of the Southern Adriatic sea. As Herceg Novi area is simultaneously the part of the Boka Kotorska Bay (which goes deeply to mainland), eutrophication is more visiable there. Biological parameters were the most visiable indicators of eutrophication during these investigations.

The objective of the paper is establishing of eco-chemical characterization of the river system by investigating and distribution heavy metal content in the river sediments using sequential extraction and total digestion. Heavy metals toxicity and bioavailability in the Danube river sediment are defined according to their distribution between different phases. Sediments samples were taken from 9 sites and analysed for cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and chromium (Cr), and the results about cadmium and iron presented in this paper.

In this work, the horizontal and vertical distribution of metals in the sediment of the DTD canal was studied, in a 6 km long polluted section between Vrbas and Bezdan. The assess sediment quality and the bioavailability of heavy metals, sediment samples were analyzed for total metal content, acid volutile sulphides (AVS) and simultaneously extracted metals (SEM). A high total metals content was determined (mainly Cu, Ni and Zn), which indicates that the sediment requires remediation. The AVS and SEM results show that in almost every profile, the molar concentration of metals is less than the molar concentration of sulphides, which suggests that in practice, the metals are not bioavailable. The high metals content of the sediment means that drudging of the canal will be necessary, during which, attention will have to be paid to avoid causing negative effects from the metals present in the sediment.
