Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Fattening of Morkaraman Lambs with Different Dietary Plant Protein Sources

This study investigated the effects of different plant protein sources incorporated into feed concentrates on the live weight gain and feed conversion ratio of Morkaraman lambs by days 28, 42 and 56 of fattening, and presents a cost-benefit analysis. The study animals included 24 male Morkaraman lambs with a mean age of 9 months, which were assigned to 3 study groups. The dietary plant protein sources provided to the animals were soybean meal and safflower meal in Group I, wheat gluten in Group II, and corn gluten in Group III. The total feed intake values (kg) of Group I, Group II and Group III were 40.75±1.08, 39.18±0.88, and 37.67±0.62, respectively, during the period between days 0-28 of fattening; 62.77±1.67, 60.14±0.96, and 57.54±1.28, respectively, during the period between days 0-42 of fattening; and 83.31±1.89, 77.79±1.43, and 75.97±1.67, respectively, during the period between days 0-56 of fattening (p<0.05). The live weight gain values (kg) of Group I, Group II and Group III during the period between days 0-56 of fattening were 14.82±0.84, 11.97±0.51, and 13.71±0.91, respectively (p<0.05). The feed conversion ratio was observed not to have a statistically significant effect on production yields (p>0.05). In conclusion, while the highest income from live weight gain during the period between days 0-56 of fattening was achieved with the use of soybean meal and safflower meal as dietary plant protein sources, the lowest fattening cost was achieved with the use of corn gluten.

Uncertain heat shock by a rapid increase in temperature particularly at the critical growth stage affects plant productivity. The study aimed to assess qualitative changes in wheat grains when plant exposed to high temperature shock (HTS) at starting anthesis for limited durations (48, 72 and 96h). Selected wheat cultivars (Pirsabak-2005, Pakhtunkhwa-2015, Pakistan-2013, DN-84, P-2, P-12 and P-18) were exposed to extending HTS effective from anthesis in the field covering plants within plastic tents for a limited duration. The experiment was conducted in 2017-18 and 2018-19 at the Research Farm, the University of Agriculture Peshawar, Pakistan in a randomized complete block design, in three replications. Temperatures inside and outside plastic tents were manually noted. Two years mean data showed significant effects of HTS on the wheat grain quality. Imposed HTS for 48, 72 and 96h resulted in a reduction on grain amylose by 23, 39 and 48% and wet gluten by 16, 25 and 36%, respectively when compared with the control (i.e. no HTS). Contrary to this, as compared to the control treatment an increase noted in the grain amylopectin by 7, 11 & 17% and in the grain N-content by 13, 28 & 41% with imposing HTS extending to a duration of 48, 72 and 96h, respectively. The study concluded adverse effects of HTS at the anthesis stage on wheat grain quality disturbing amylose and amylopectin ratios, which latter on brought changes in floor structure and gluten elasticity. However, cultivar did differ to respond to the changes but have the option to choose the best one.

Bu çalışmada, rat diyetlerine katılan farklı protein kaynaklarının serum dokularında karaciğer enzimleri ve lipit profili üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmada protein kaynağı olarak soya küspesi, buğday ve mısır gluteni kullanıldı. Araştırma Grup I, Grup II ve Grup III olarak üç grup şeklinde dizayn edildi. Araştırmada her grupta 8 adet erkek ve 8 adet dişi olmak üzere toplam 24 adet erkek, 24 adet dişi Sprague Dawley cinsi rat kullanıldı. Araştırmada hayvanlar doğumdan itibaren anneleri ile birlikte 30 gün, annelerinden ayrıldıktan sonra da 30 gün olmak üzere toplam 60 gün deneme yemleri ile beslendi. Çalışmanın sonunda serum dokusunda karaciğer enzimlerini belirlemek amacıyla alanin aminotransferaz (ALT), aspartat aminotransferaz (AST), alkalin fosfataz (ALP) ve gama-glutamil transferaz (GGT), kreatin kinaz (CK); lipit profilini belirlemek için triaçilgliserol (TAG), diaçilgliserol (DAG), monoaçilgliserol (MAG), serbest yağ asidi (SYA), kolesterol (Kol) ve fosfolipit (F1) analizleri yapıldı. Çalışmanın sonunda dişi ratların karaciğer enzimleri seviyeleri arasında fark bulunmazken, erkek hayvanların AST ve ALP seviyeleri arasında önemli fark olduğu tespit edildi. Grup II’nin AST oranı Grup I ve Grup III’den düşük, Grup II ve III’ün ALP oranı ise Grup I’den önemli derecede yüksek bulundu. Çalışmada dişi ratların “De Ritis” seviyeleri (AST/ALT) Grup I (2,42/ 1,84) ve Grup II’de (2,28/0,71); erkek ratlarda ise Grup III’de (1,29/2,71) yüksek tespit edildi. Çalışmada dişi ratların Grup I’inde serbest yağ asit oranı Grup II’den önemli derecede düşük (p<0,05), Grup III ile benzer bulundu. Çalışmanın sonunda farklı protein kaynaklarının erkek ratların ALP ve AST oranlarını, dişi ve erkek ratların De Ritis seviyelerini ve dişi ratların ise SYA oranını önemli oranlarda etkiledikleri tespit edildi.
Show more [+] Less [-]The Effect of High Amounts of Wheat Gluten Meal and Corn Gluten Meal Added to the Diets on Some Serum Parameters in Rats

The aim of this study was to determine the effects on some serum parameters of wheat and corn gluten diet, which is also a high protein source. A total of 24 male rats aged 20 days and divided into 3 groups, each containing 8 rats were used in the study. The majority of the protein content in the diet of soybean meal as a Control group; in the diet of wheat gluten as a Wheat group; in the diet of corn gluten as a Corn group were composed. At the end of the study, blood samples taken from all animals were analysed. In the study, serum glucose, TP, urea, creatinine and BUN levels were found to be significantly decreased in Corn group compared to Wheat group. Serum ALT levels were similar with the Control and Wheat groups, but it was found to be significantly decreased in the Corn group. Serum AST levels were significantly lower in the Corn group. Serum GGT levels were significantly lower in both Corn and Wheat groups compared to Control group. Serum Ca and P levels were similar with all groups, whereas Mg levels were significantly decreased in Wheat and Corn groups compared to the Control group. As a result, it can be said that corn gluten added to the diet has more positive effects than wheat gluten in terms of both liver enzyme activities (AST, ALT and GGT) and renal parameters (Urea and BUN).
