Costalimaita ferruginea (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is the main Coleoptera defoliator of eucalyptus in Brazil and has a strong association with plants of the family Myrtaceae, bein the eucalyptus important for the sectors of energy, paper, pulp and furniture industry. The objective of the present study was to record the occurrence of this Chrysomelidae in eucalyptus plants in Sinop, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, during the months of November 2010 to January 2011, thus contributing to increase in knowledge on the geographic distribution of this insect and also hypothesize that the Coleoptera may soon become a major pest of eucalyptus in the state of Mato Grosso.

Entomofauna from West of Santa Catarina State, South of Brazil Abstract. In this study is presented a list of 1328 insect species observed in west of Santa Catarina State, Brazil, in the last eight decades. The species richness founds corresponds 1.47 % of the total of species registered in Brazil. The data set was compiled from collection records performed by F. Plaumann, in addition to the records from literature and personal observations. Here, we recorded a total of 17 orders of insects. The order Hymenoptera had greatest richness with 382 species. Within Hymenoptera, the family Formicidae represented 48.42% and Apidae, 19%. In order Coleoptera, we found 230 species, with Curculionidae representing 22.60% of this total and Coccinelidae 19.13%. On the order Lepidoptera we recorded 199 species, the Nymphalidae family represented 37.18% of this richness and Saturniidae, 22.11%. The species richness presented here is minimal when compared to the total recorded for Brazil, but it is an important step to improve the knowledge about the geographic distribution of these insects.

2008
Charles Morphy Dias Santos
The infraorder Tabanomorpha traditionally includes the families Tabanidae, Athericidae, Rhagionidae, and Vermileonidae. The new family Oreoleptidae was placed among the tabanomorphan, as well as some controversial groups as Austroleptidae and Spaniidae, but there is no agreement on the phylogenetic relationships of the groups considered as belonging to the infraorder. Here is presented the geographical distribution of the following tabanomorphan families: Rhagionidae, Vermileonidae, Athericidae, Austroleptidae and Oreoleptidae. Every historical biogeographical analysis depends on up-to-dated distributional information, and, hence, reliable lists of distribution are a starting point to a broad comprehension of the evolution in space.

In this article we present the historical records of the Brazilian hawkmoths deposited in the Entomological Collection of the Museu de História Natural da Bahia (MHNBA-UFBA), including the historical Lepidoptera collection donated by Dr. Pedro de Araújo to the MHNBA-UFBA. The Sphingidae collection is composed of 243 specimens and represents 24 genera and 66 species. The historical collection consists of specimens captured between the years 1924 and 1934, and we also included to the collection specimens that were captured more recently, between 1982 and 2014. The subfamily Macroglossinae presented the greatest species richness and Smerinthinae the presented the least species richness. Of all of specimens in the collection, 151 came from São Paulo State (Brazil), 41 from Santa Catarina State, 50 from Bahia State and only one from Pernambuco State. Three topotypes were identified in the collection, namely: Eumorpha translineatus (Rothschild, 1895), Xylophanes crenulata Vaglia & Haxaire, 2009 and Xylophanes alineae Haxaire & Mielke, 2018.
