Zizyphus joazeiro tree is a typical semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil, is mainly in the areas of crystalline basement in lower parts, where soils are deeper. It is endemic to biome caatinga, has great economic potential and importance to the semi-arid region, both in terms of socio-environmental, adds several species of bees, insects and birds, and for animal feed as fodder. The objective was to evaluate the possible effects of water stress and salt in the germination of seeds of Zizyphus joazeiro. The number of seeds in 100 per treatment, 04 repetitions of 25 seeds were placed to germinate on filter paper soaked with different solutions of NaCl and PEG 6000 (2.5 share the weight of paper: 1.0 solution or water) in potential 0.0 (control distilled water); -0.3, -0.6; and -0.9 MPa. Then were placed in the germination chamber at a temperature of 30 ºC in the presence of light. The results led to the conclusion that salt stress provides further reduction in the germination and speed of germination of Zizyphus joazeiro seeds than the water stress, regardless of the substance used for stress induction, germination limit was 0.6 to -0.9 MPa.

The moringa oleifera Lam. tree, a native plant species from tropical Africa, although it has been in introduced in Brazil as an ornamental tree, it can be used for industrial and medicine purposes. The work was to evaluate the physiological quality of the jug with different reservoirs and environmental conditions for a period of six months. The study was conducted in the laboratory of plant physiology in UFERSA, where the seeds were obtained, which were stored after the harvest in three different containers: plastic bag, paper bag and glass which were stored at room temperature and cold for a period of three and six months. After 12 days of sowing, evaluations were made of the speed of germination index (IVG), height and fresh and dry matter of seedlings. The experimental design was entirely randomized in a factorial 3 x 2 x 2, and studied three containers (plastic bag, paper bag and glass), two environments (temperature and cold) and two storage periods (3 and 6 months ) with four replications. The results showed that the seeds are orthodox behavior, remaining viable for six months when stored in cold and room temperature, regardless of packaging, if they are wrapped in airtight packaging.

Most of the time, seedlings of yellow passion fruit are produced from seeds. The success in the establishment of the culture depends on several factors, such as the use of seeds of good quality and choice of the best substrate. This work the aim, was to evaluate sources alternative of organic matter in the mixture of substrates for the production of yellow-passion (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg) seedlings. The experimental design was in blocks completely randomized, with ten treatments, with four repetitions and ten plants per parcel, been the treatments: pure soil (S), soil + goat manure (S + GM) in the proportion of 3:1, soil + sheep manure (S + SM) in the proportion of 3:1, soil + bovine manure (S + BM) in the proportion of 3:1, soil + earthworm humus (S + H) in the proportion of 3:1, soil + goat manure + sheep manure (S + GM + SM) in the proportion of 2:1:1, soil + goat manure + bovine manure (S + GM + BM) in the proportion of 2:1:1, soil + sheep manure + bovine manure (S + SM + BM) in the proportion of 2:1:1 , soil + sheep manure + bovine manure (S + SM + BM) in the proportion of 2:1:1, pure soil fertilized with single superphosphate and potassium chloride (S + P + K) at doses of 1 kg m-3 and 0.5 kg m-3 respectively and pure soil fertilized with only single superphosphate (S + P) at a dose of 1 kg m-3. The use of goat and sheep manure in mixtures of substrates provided good results in the production of Yellow-passion seedlings. Of all the tested substrates, the substrate soil + bovine manure in the proportion of 3:1 promoted the best development of the yellow-passion seedlings.

The maniçoba (Manihot glaziovii) owns good qualities as forage for the herds. The goal of this work was to evaluate forms for superation of numbness in maniçoba seeds. The research was developed in the Labotatório de Sementes-CCA/UFPB. It was used delineation entirely casualised, with four repetitions of 25 seeds. The treatments were: witness (without treatment) - escarification mechanical (SANDPAPER) - T2; escarification mechanical + immersion in water for 24 hours (SANDPAPER+24h) - T3; escarification mechanical + immersion in water for 48 hours (SANDPAPER+48h) - T4; immersion in hot water to 80ºC for 2' (80th+2min)- T5; immersion in hot water to 90ºC for 2' (90th+2min) - T6; immersion in hot water to 100ºC for 2' (100th+2min) - T7. The seeds, after treated, were sown in plastic arts trays contend sand and done daily countings for IVE's Determination, emergency first counting and percentage. The comparison of the averages was by Tukey's Test to 5% of probability. That the treatments T2 was observed and T3 were the ones that obtained best results of Emergency Velocity Indice (IVE), not differentiating to each other, however, in the treatments T5, T6 and T7 the emergency was null. For the first-rate results counting the treatment T3 was what it obtained better answer. Already for the results of emergency percentage T2 was what it introduced better result, ending up introducing 70% of emergency, followed by the treatments T3, T4, T1 respectively.

This work was accomplished with the objective of establishing a technique for the control of the oxidation, in the micropropagation in vitro of the Aloysia virgata. The experimental design utilized was the completely randomized one, with 5 treatments and 20 replications. Being the treatments: T1: control (without activated coal, sun), T2 (coal, sun), T3 (darkness, without coal), T4 (wash, control), T5 (darkness, coal). The characteristics evaluated were the oxidation levels, the percentage of contamination (fungus, bacterium) and the development (height, number of leaves). Before the presented results it can be concluded that the Aloysia virgata presents oxidation easiness. The wash in water favors the spread of fungus and bacterium. The dark ambient and the middle with activated coal were efficient in the control of the oxidation.

The forage cactus is cultivated of extensive form as a producing species of fruits and fodder plant in many countries. The extensive culture if bases on the vegetative propagation, that is preferred, had its easiness. The propagation for seeds can come to be a useful tool for ends of genetic improvement, then, in this work forage cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica L.) seeds were submitted to different fermentation periods (0; 24; 48; 72 and 96 hours) and were dried or not, before sowing. It was evaluated the physiological quality of the seeds through the determination of the moisture content, emergence percentage and speed of seedling emergency. It was used an entirely randomized experimental design 5x2 (period of fermentation and drying). The practical one of the fermentation is efficient in the elimination of the sarcotesta in palm seeds, occurring bigger vigor in the seeds without drying and submitted the 55 hours of fermentation, as well as, the drying of the seeds, after the first periods of fermentation promotes reduction of the physiological quality, with reflected right-handers in the vigor.

An unidentified Lepidoptera species was found defoliating Eucalyptus cloeziana (Myrtaceae) in a cerrado area of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Pupae of this insect, collected in the area, were brought to the laboratory and maintained in Petri dishes (9.0 cm x 1.5 cm) under 25 ± 2oC, relative humidity of 60 ± 10% and 12 hours photophase to obtain adults and eggs. This insect was identified as Hylesia paulex Dognin (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae), and, in that way, the objective of the present study was to register for the first time its herbivory in E. cloeziana plants. Newly-emerged caterpillars were reared in 10 plastic pots (500ml), with 30 caterpillars per pot and fed, daily, with fresh leaves of Eucalyptus cloeziana (Myrtaceae). The egg incubation period of H. paulex was 32.00 ± 1.19 days. The total duration of the seven instars of this insect was 67.83 ± 0.84 days. Hylesia paulex completed its life cycle with E. cloeziana plants, what proves its adaptability to this kind of exotic Myrtaceae in Brazil.
