Cubiu is a native Amazon plant that has attracted attention for its nutritional and pharmaceutical industries. The goal this paper was to evaluate the effect of priming on germination andseedling emergence from of three varieties of cubiu seeds: Santa Luzia, Thais and Musquet, using five priming conditions: water for 12 and 24 h, solutions of PEG 6000 and 0.35 Mol KNO3 for 24 and 48 h at 25 °C. Unprimed seeds were considered as control. After priming, seeds conditioned or not, were evaluated by means of tests: germination, speed of germination, seedling emergence and speed of emergence. The variety Thais had the best physiological quality, and priming in KNO3 which provided greater effects on germination and seed vigor cubiu.

The cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) is one of the most cultivated leguminous in the world. In spite of being a very studied species, there are theoretical models for the development for different habits of culture. The concept of thermal time, replacing the chronological time, has been used frequently, with the advantage to be independent of location and time of sowing. Considering the relevance of the activity for the State of Piauí, this work had the purpose of describing fenology of the variety BR 17 - Gurguéia, relating the number of day-degrees necessary to the development of each fenological state. An experiment was realized in the Departamento de Fitotecnia of Centro de Ciências Agrárias of Universidade Federal do Píauí, Teresina- Piauí. It was found that the number of vegetative stages is indefinite and that the variety shows at least six reproductive stages. The vegetative stage V1 (2º in the main branch with leaflets fully open) was the longest and from the stadium V10 (11º in the main branch with leaflets fully open) was overlap of vegetative and reproductive stages. The cultivar BR 17 - Gurguéia in rainfed crop, requires 818.2 degree-days from sowing until the early reproductive stage and 1103.5 degree days from planting to the end of the reproductive cycle, with wide adaptability for the State of Piauí; the cultivar BR 17 - Gurguéia presents six reproductive stages, LV the stadium is the longest among the vegetative and reproductive stages, individually, need a greater number of degree- days that the vegetation

The actual paper was carried out aiming to evaluate the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium on the growth and seeds production of castor bean (Ricinus communis L.), cultivar BRS Nordestina and BRS Paraguaçu. For each cultivar an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in Campina Grande, PB. Each experiment was conducted on a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design completely randomized resulting 24 experimental units, subjected to the following levels of fertilization: nitrogen (200 and 300 kg ha-1), phosphorus (150 and 250 kg ha-1) and potassium (150 and 250 kg ha-1). Plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and leaf area were measured at 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160 days after planting. At the end of the experiment the weight of seeds was measured. Nitrogen was the nutrient that promoted the highest growth and yield for both cultivars; the phosphorus and potassium application did not influence the stem diameter, leaf area and the yield of castor bean; the highest plant height was obtained with the treatment N1P1K1 (200-150-150 kg ha-1).

The goal of this paper was to verify the influence of two water regimes on the phytotechnical, production, and agroindustrial indicators in three varieties of sugarcane. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the State University of Montes Claros - Unimontes, with design of randomized blocks in a split plot scheme. The treatments were two water regimes (irrigated and non-irrigated) and three sugarcane varieties (RB 72-454, SP 79-1011 e SP 80-1842) randomly distributed in four blocks. The phytotechnical and production variables analyzed were plant height, stalk diameter and shoot biomass yield, and the agroindustrial variables were soluble solid and fiber content. Data were subjected to analysis of variance with application of Ftest and the means were compared among themselves by Tukey test. At conditions which the experiment was realized, the plant height, the shoot biomass yield, the soluble solids and fiber content were efficient indicators for the selection of sugarcane varieties to tolerance to water deficit. Among the indicators studied, only the stalk diameter did not respond to soil water availability. Among the varieties, only SP 79-1011 showed indifferent to water availability on the shoot biomass yield.

The brackish water can be used on profitable agricultural production, depending on the adoption of appropriated crop practices and the crop tolerance to salinity as well. The hydroponic system can contribute when it is used with brackish water on horticulture production, because the great state of saturation that plants is submitted enables the increase of crop tolerance to salinity. This paper evaluated the effect of salinity on nutritive solution of rocket (Eruca sativa L.), cv. "Cultivada", cultivated in coconut fiber substrate under protected conditions. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocs design, with four types of water, added with NaCl, one was the control (S1 = 2.0; S2 = 3.5; S3 = 4.5 and S4 = 5.5 dS m-1), applied in four development stages (1st week, 2nd week, 3th week and 4th week after the transplantation) with four repetitions. The evaluated characteristics were the crown diameter, fresh and dry weight of the canopy. The results showed that increasing salinity levels decreased the fresh biomass. The first and second growth week of cultivation times were more sensitive to application of saline water with reduction 9.7% on the fresh biomass.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different freezing times on the physical and chemical properties of goat Saanen breed milk in different the stages lactation L1 (55-65 days); L2 (75-85 days); L3 (95-105 days) and L4 (125-135 days). Three freezing times were tested: -18 ºC (40, 80 and 120 days) and time control (time zero). The stages of lactation of the goats influenced the cryoscopic index, the fat percentages, lactose, protein and total dry extract of the milks samples; nevertheless, the values that were found are between the limits accepted by the law. The results have shown that the milk freezing time did not influence (P<0,05) the density, cryoscopic, fat, lactose, protein and total dry extract parameters of the milk samples. There was an effect of interaction of stages the lactation x the freezing time of the milk (P<0,05) for the pH and acidity, which showed lower values with the increasing freezing time of the milks samples. The freezing time of goat milk proved to be a good means technical of preservation of its physical and chemical components, guaranteeing the product final quality and enabling the delivery the same in periods of low production.

This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of herbicides on the biomass and nodulation ofcowpea. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse, in experimental design with randomized blocks, in factorial arrangement 4x2 + 2, corresponding applications of the herbicide bentazon, clethodim, fomesafen and smetolachlor, the recommended dose (RD) and recommended twice (RDA) in four periods of development of cowpea (20, 30, 45 and 55 days after planting, DAP). An inoculated control treatment without herbicide application and a control without inoculation, no application of herbicide and nitrogen fertilizer were included. Inoculation was performed with the strains INPA UFLA 03-11B and 03-84. The results showed for the experiment in a greenhouse that bentazon and clethodim, both at the recommended dose and double dose, provide low phytotoxicity to cowpea and has little influence on nodulation and crop biomass. The herbicide smetalochlor presents high degree of phytotoxicity in cowpea, completely inhibits the vegetative growth when applied at twice the recommended dose.

The viruses from the genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae are considered emergent pathogens, mainly because of the population explosion of their insect vectors. For this reason, more attention needs to be directed to the correct virus species identification inside the genus. The present paper had the objectives of serologically detecting a begomovirus in Macroptilium lathyroides plants in the State of Ceará, and developing biological, serological and molecular studies with a virus isolate obtained from M. lathyroides. Indirect ELISA with antiserum for Macroptilium golden mosaic virus (MaGMV) demonstrated that the samples collected from M. lathyroides showing golden mosaic in the field were infected with a begomovirus. The virus isolate obtained was transmitted by grafting to eight species of the family Leguminosae, four species of Solonaceae, and one species in the family Amaranthaceae. The virus also was transmitted from M. lathyroides to M. lathyroides by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci biotype B. A DNA fragment of 1.2 kb was obtained by PCR with the primers PAL1v 1978 and PAR1c 496 for component A, and a DNA fragment of 0.5 kb was obtained with the primers PBL1v 2040 and PCR cl for component B, confirming the presence of a begomovirus infecting M. lathyroides. Molecular studies indicated that the begomovirus isolate showed 77% genomic similarity with Bean golden mosaic virus and 75% with Cowpea golden mosaic virus for their cp and rep genes, indicating the possibility that the isolate is a distinct virus species of the Begomovirus genus.

The nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) generally are the two nutrients that occur in lower levels in the soil in relation to the need of the plant and are the nutrients most required by the maize crop. With the present work aimed to define the levels of N and P2O5 associated to the maximal economical of green corn in an alkaline soil of the city of Baraúna-RN. The maize hybrid AG 1051 was planted in spacing of 0.70 x 0.23 m and harvested on the condition of green corn to 75 days after planting. Were applied 17 treatments, being 16 treatments resulting from the combination between four doses of N (30, 60, 90 and 120 kg ha-1) and four doses of P2O5 (30, 60, 90 and 120 kg ha-1) and a control treatment, in which not applied any dose of these nutrients. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with four repetitions. The characteristics evaluated were: number and total weight of cobs, number and weight of marketable covered cobs and number and weight of marketable uncovered cobs. The increase of the availability of N and P in soil, as a result of fertilizing, positively influences positively the weight of green maize ears. The culture of green corn responded better to phosphorus fertilization than nitrogen fertilization, showing that in the soil of the experimental area the P was more limiting to the production than the N. Although the majority of production of marketable covered cobs has been estimated for the application of 120 kg ha-1 N + 106 kg ha-1 P2O5, the doses of maximum economic and environmental efficiency recommended were 60 kg ha-1 N + 106 kg ha-1 P2O5.
