The paper analysis the use of ecosystem services in the marketing strategies of accommodation facilities and tourism agencies promoting nature based tourism in Bucovina region. The territorial marketing of goods and services provided by forests is a marketing tool which links the local natural and cultural resources to a specific territory. Bucovina region is well known for its cultural world heritages, the painted monasteries, but tourism attractions of the region are also the natural landscapes and the traditional gastronomic products. The study uses a qualitative analysis based on two online marketing surveys which have targeted 214 managers of accommodation facilities and 95 tourism agencies. Given the reduced rate of responses the results of the study are interpreted from an exploratory perspective resulting in hypotheses which have to be further validated. The study indentifies that for the majority of the respondents the nature based tourism is perceived as a complementary form of tourism to the classical, cultural one, even though its promotion potential is identified as very high. The natural “portfolio” of Bucovina region is not promoted using an integrated strategy but rather as individual cases. The study also derives as a research hypothesis the fact that the visible degradation of the forest landscapes is likely to negatively impact on the promotion of Bucovina as an ecoregion.

The study was performed in a degraded ecosystem by grazing from North-Est of Romania. The aim of the study was to determine main characteristics of primary succession in a pioneer stage initiated on a weathered land by intensive grazing and to identify vegetation classes and potential successional directions. Primary succession analysis was performed by non-systematic inventory in rectangular experimental plots of 25 m2, by identifying woody species presence, biometric measurements (diameter, number of individuals/bushes, number of stems and heights). The analysis of composition indicated the presence of 17 woody species, which were further grouped in classes of vegetation (Corylus-Carpinus, Cornus-Crataegus, Crataegus-Corylus, Populus- Carpinus, names according to two first dominant species). The classes were distinguished as associations between the main pioneer species (Corylus avellana L., Crataegus monogyna Jacq., Cornus sanguinea L., Populus tremula L.). Variability of diameters and heights indicating homogeneous distribution of structure. Grazing had a very important role in the installation and increase of species diversity (zoochor vector), as the most instaled species has a zoochor type dissemination. The possible directions of succession (beech forests or beech and hornbeam forests) were also discussed.

This paper approaches the subject of soil biodiversity and of some biometrical characteristics short-term rotation hybrid poplar production from Rădăuţi area. The research was supported STRoMA project (Sustainability of short-term rotation cultures of trees on marginal lands), in a under development. The analyzis was aimed on: the influence of soil granulometry on the maximum depth of occurrence of poplars radicelar system and on the maximum depth of insects and small mammals galleries. During the research was also highlighted the influence of depth and granulometry of the alluvial deposits of these soils on height of hybridpoplar specimens.

The World Heritage List (WHL) of UNESCO currently comprises 1007 properties in 161 States Parties. Most of these sites are cultural (779) and only 197 are natural sites whereas 31 are mixed sites with outstanding universal cultural and natural values. Romania has only 8 sites registered on WHL of UNESCO, 7 cultural sites and one natural site – The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve – being underrepresented in relation with the real value of its natural patrimony. Beech is a deciduous species exclusively European and the beech forests constitute the potential natural vegetation for the temperate zone of Europe. Beech forests represent an outstanding and globally unparalleled example of the ongoing ecological processes of post-glacial expansion. This is a key factor for supporting the nomination of beech forests under WHL of UNESCO. Romania, the country with the larges area of beech forests and well preserved primary beech forests, has an important responsibility for the conservation of an adequate and representative network of beech forests. Considering these aspects, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change – Department for Waters, Forests and Fisheries, National Forest Administration – Romsilva, Forest Research and Management Institute, WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme Office and Greenpeace CEE Romania Foundation have signed a protocol for collaboration having as target the selection of certain beech forests to be included on the WHL of UNESCO.

Having no importance for Romanian forestry, Picea pungens Engelm. is a very ornamental species, often seen in Romanian parks and gardens. They are cultivated especially glauca and argentea forms). The biggest problem of this forms is getting seedlings. The generative way is not recommended because, although at begin those specimens obtained have the characteristic color of the variety, with the passage of time the color disappears. So, the vegetative way remains the only possible way in order to obtain best specimens. Propagation method used in these experiments is side-veener- grafting. The rootstock was represented by Picea abies, which was grafted with scion collected from Picea pungens Argentea variety. The experiment factors were vegetative stage of rootstock and grafting level. Regarding the first factor, we chose two graduations, the grafting being made on less active rootstock and well active rootstock. Regarding the grafting level, the graft was made to the first growth, on the second and on the third growth. The behavior of grafted seedlings was followed throughout the growing season, with the work of care applied in the process, but the final inventory of survivinng grafts was made at the end of the growing season. To interpret the results on grafting efficiency, expressed by number of slips caught, the data obtained from the measurements were statistically processed by variance analysis method, using the method of multiple comparisons (the Duncan test).
