Results from two oil palm spacing trials, one planted in 1964 and the other in 1973, were analysed and compared. Optimum densities could not be predicted from early results and computations from the older experiment suggest that the density for well-fertilised inland soils may well be lower than that previously recommended. A number of models were examined for goodness-of-fit to oil palm yield/density data. Though not entirely satisfactory, the Holliday equation was found to be quite suitable for analyses
