Munroe, C.E. | Cooper, A.S. | Samiano, A.R.
Five trials were established in farmers' field in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite to compare farmers' weed control practices and treatments which consisted of complete chemical control or a herbicide application followed by (fb a) hand weeding. Pendimethalin at 1.5 kg a.i./ha gave significantly better grass control as compared to all other treatments. Poor broadleaf control resulted in significantly higher hand weeding times as compared to other herbicide treatments and net returns were low due to higher treatment costs. Butachlor at 2.0 kg a.i./ha fb a hand weeding gave the highest yield and net return. The high rate of butachlor also resulted in significantly better weed control and hand weeding times were significantly lower as compared to all other treatments. Similar yields were obtained from all herbicide treatments fb a hand weeding and were significantly higher than all other treatments
