Edible component parts of broiler chickens

Edible component parts and carcass weights were determined for 8 week old broilers of a commercial strain. Eviscerated and edible carcass weights were significantly heavier (P0.01) for males than females although as percentage of live weight there were no differences between sex. The mean yield for individual parts was highest for breast while the neck formed the smallest part. The male drumstick was significantly heavier than the female's (P0.01), however differences between sex among other parts were not significant. The total giblet yield was also influenced by sex
