Evaluation of various feeding methods and factors affecting true metabolizable energy value of diets in chicken

Various feeding methods and factors affecting the measurement of apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and true metabolizable energy (TME) of diets in chicken were evaluated. TME tend to appear less variable than AME values. While the younger birds tended to show less gross energy excretion, the amount of G.E. excreted based on kg body weight were fairly consistent among the chickens of various age group. The amount of gross energy excreted during 30 hrs. of fasting was 0.256 and 0.253 kcal/kg body weight/hr for the SCWL and the crossbred, respectively
