Nitrogen uptake of flue-cured tobacco as influenced by varying rates

Time of N fertilization affected the growth and yield of tobacco. The height, leaf area, number of harvested leaves, yield and crop value of tobacco plants fertilized at transplanting were better than those fertilized either at 15 or 30 days after transplanting (DAT). The growth and yield of tobacco plants fertilized with different rates of N did not differ. However, the fertilized tobacco plants outperformed the untreated plants. The dry matter accumulation and N uptake of tobacco demonstrated linear increase from 21 to 63 DAT. Essentially, the tobacco plants fertilized at transplanting had higher N uptake rate and percent apparent N recovery than those fertilized at 15 or 30 DAT
