Mussels obtained from selected beds in Bacoor Bay, Cavite were depurated in changed and unchanged water and sucrose solutions. Depurated mussels subjected to these conditions showed significant differences in total plate counts. The total plate counts increased earlier in mussels depurated in unchanged water and sucrose solution than the changed one. In changed sucrose solution, the depurated mussels showed an insignificant count from 0-72 hr. sampling period. Coliform counts of depurated mussels in changed and unchanged water and sucrose solutions were significantly different from each other as time progressed. Trends showed that regardless of the method of depuration employed, coliform counts significantly increased after 24 hr. sampling, then decreased as time progressed and increased at the end of the 72 hr sampling time
