A new high yielding adzuki bean variety, Chungwonpat, selected from local varieties which were originally collected from Chungwon-gun, Chungbuk, Korea R. was developed at the Crop Experiment Station in 1983. This variety was dark-grey in seed coat color and outyielded Hongchonjoktu, which was most widely cultivated local variety, by 15% in three years of regional yield trial conducted at 11 locations throughout the country. This variety showed also good adaptability to late planting and identified as having fairly good resistance to rust (Uromyces azukicola) and a degree of tolerance to adzuki bean mosaic virus and powdery mildew (Sphaeroteca fuliginea)
