This paper investigates the efficiency of the conventional way of feeding (green feed in summer and conserved in winter) and of the monodiet feeding of highly productive milch cows under the present raising conditions in the Agricultural combine "Beograd". The investigation was carried out upon cows of Friesian breed with equal basic agronomic properties. On the basis of the results obtained the following conclusions are drawn: -In three hundred lactation days the quantity of milk was 4.30% higher when using conventional feed, than when using monodiet consisting of maize silage and a moderate quantity of hay (1:2 = 5.747:5.994 kg). -In the first hundred lactation days the cows fed with monodiet consumed 5.86% less dry matter. -The average rate of apparent digestibility of raw cellulose and proteins was higher with cows fed with green alfalfa, than with those fed with silage and hay. -In the first part of the lactation period, in the liquid content in the paunch of the cows fed with maize silage and alfalfa hay more acetate and butyrate was found, than in the paunches of cows fed with meals based on green alfalfa. Feeding with monodiet results in a lower production of milk than feeding with green feed. This difference can be significantly lower if the quality of the conserved forage is improved.
