Heterosis in maize, 1: grain yield and some of its attributes [in India]
1984
Debnath, S.C.
Heterosis over mid-parent and better parent were estimated in 36 F1 hybrids involving 9 elite and diverse maize inbreds for grain yield and some of its attributes. Heterosis for grain yield varied from 21.07% to 123.68% over mid-parent and from 2.69% to 95.07% over better parent. Among component characters, high heterosis was present for number of kernels per row and ear length. Negative and/or non-significant heterosis was observed for kernel rows per ear and 1000-kernel weight in most of the hybrids. Twelve hybrids were proposed to evaluate over environments for their possible exploitation of heterosis for grain yield and its component characters
