Pesticides used in agriculture in controlling various pests may also produce some beneficial effects on plants but very often are not assessed. Several workers have reported that such pesticide application is an essential component of yield of many crops. To evaluate the stimulating effect of carbofuran (furadan), two in vitro experiments were conducted under pest free condition at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England during 1981. Significantly greater leaf length, more tillers, increased grain yield per plant as well as grain weight were obtained at 6 kg a.i./a. But no significant increase in plant height compared to control was observed in any of the treatments although there was a tendency to increase in plant height with higher dosages.
