This paper studies cytohistochemical characters of carbohydrates and proteins in the cuticle, apical zone and cells of the hepatopancreas of the Penaeus kerathurus. Cytohistochemical characters of carbohydrates and proteins in the cuticle and apical zone are very similar. Both zones contain acid mucosubstances and glycoproteins, as well as lysine, tryptophan, tyrosine, arginine, cysteine and cystine high content proteins. The apical zone has a great deal of proteins rich in lysine but is lacking in acid mucosubstances. The three types of cells contain acid mucosubstances and glycoproteins, as well as, lysine, cystine, tyrosine, tryptophan and arginine high content proteins. Carboxylated mucosubstances are present in the cells and sulphated mucosubstances are present in the cuticle and apical zone
