A new high yielding rice variety with good grain shape and quality "Chilesongbyeo" was developed from a cross between Milyang 34 and Milyang 29 at the Yeongnam Crop Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration in 1984. It is heading date was about 4 days later than that of Taebaegbyeo in ordinary culture. Chilseongbyeo has a good plant type and resistance to blast, stripe virus, dwarf virus, and brown planthopper. It has short grains with low amylose content and good eating quality. The yield potential of Chilseongbyeo was about 11% higher than that of Taebaegbyeo under the normal fertilizer level
