Daecheongbyeo was released as a new rice variety at the Honam Crop Experiment Station in 1984. It was a medium maturing variety developed from the cross Nagdongbyeo x HR 1590-92-4-4-4-4. On the average, Daecheongbyeo headed 2 days earlier than Chuncheongbyeo. It has an improved plant type with intermediate stature. At heading, leaves of Daecheongbyeo tend to remain upright, and it has somewhat longer flag leaves than Nagdongbyeo. It was more resistant to lodging than Nagdongbyeo and Chuncheongbyeo because of stem stiffness. The culm length, panicle length, number of spikelets, and grain shape of Daecheongbyeo were similar to those of Nagdongbyeo
